Franklin Street Comes Alive! Live Music Program Downtown
Chapel Hill, NC, July 27, 2009: The Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership and the Chapel Hill Mayor's Office have initiated a special six-week pilot program called, Franklin Street Comes Alive!, in order to encourage more people to come downtown and support local businesses while enjoying a welcoming and musical environment along the way. Through this program local artists will be hired to play live music or perform entertainment in designated areas along the sidewalk on Franklin Street on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm. Franklin Street Comes Alive! is set to begin the first week of August. The goal for Franklin Street Comes Alive! is to support downtown business by marketing downtown as a thriving cultural destination. The program will help to nurture and expand Chapel Hill's cultural assets by supporting local musicians.

Franklin Street Comes Alive! is currently accepting online applications from performers at www.franklinstreetcomesalive.com. Performers will be paid $50 plus tips for each evening of performance. Performers will be located at three locations across Franklin Street; in front of the Bank of America building on E. Franklin St., in front of The Bicycle Chain on W. Franklin St., and in front of the UNC ITS building on W.
