Greetings!
Many of us are uncomfortable trying new technology. We are afraid we might break something or it simply "won't work".
The Internet has exploded with visual learning tools. One type of online learning is called a webinar. The webinar is a seminar broadcasted over the net. Typically registration is necessary prior to the webinar. You will receive an email with the details for joining the webinar.
It really is simple and the knowledge gained from these learning experiences are well worth the effort of trying something new. Here are some free upcoming webinars you will find of great benefit:

Healing Laughter
There is an interesting article on
the benefits of laughter by the Reverend Laura Gentry on the Evangelical
Lutheran website, www.elcabop.org . She has been introducing what is called laughter
yoga. Most of us know the healing release of some really good
laughter. The Presbytery Pastoral Care Network has dedicated the latest issue of the newsletter to
some ways that the governing body, the congregation, and the clergy can
avail themselves of the value of laughter for the health of the Body of
Christ. After all, it's summer time, lighten up, it will be good for you
and everyone you care about.

New mission co-worker commissioning
"World Mission new co-workers and long term
volunteers appointed in 2009 and 2010 will be acknowledged at a
commissioning service that will take place during the General Assembly
meeting in Minneapolis on July 8th," stated Nancy Cavalcante, Mission
Services Recruitment Coordinator. The General Assembly voted to increase the
number of mission co-workers in 2008. Total personnel engaged in World
Mission currently exceeds 200 serving in approximately 50 countries. "We estimate that, given adequate funding, we
would seek to recruit 70 new mission co-workers in response to the
requests of global partners and in fulfillment of our strategic plan,"
stated Hunter Farrell, Director of Presbyterian World Mission. "At any
given time, we have more than 100 people "in process" applying for
mission service. We receive 300-400 information requests a year from
Presbyterians about mission service through World Mission." If you have an interest in serving internationally, see a list of open
positions or call (800) 728-7228, x 2530.

Honor military chaplains at
General Assembly
As we approach the annual observance of
Independence Day on July 4 - when we will recognize the service of our
military chaplains during opening worship at the 219th General Assembly
(2010) - may it be for us Presbyterians not only a special time to
remember the freedoms that we enjoy, but also to pray for those among us
who serve faithfully as military chaplains, called to embody the hope
of Jesus Christ in some of the world's most perilous places. Through
our prayers and our gifts, together we
can make a difference to those whose ministry touches so many. |
