Many tools are available on the web that are useful to the Presbytery (staff and committees) and to our congregations. This email will introduce ones already in use in and around the presbytery. All these technologies are FREE!

A common format will be used to introduce these technologies.

How:
Link 2 Lead by Percept is a faith-based demographic study of our mission field and is provided to our congregations FREE by the Synod of the Covenant and the Presbytery of Lake Michigan. More than just census data, it helps us understand our neighbor's needs and religious background. Pastors and church leaders will be able to utilize these tools to enhance their leadership and outreach to their community.


Link2Lead.com is organized into four main sections:

My Self
This section provides you an opportunity to find out more about yourself and how you deal with change.

My Community
Just how well do you know your community? Here's a section that allows you explore the latest demographic information for your ministry area.

My Congregation
Ever wonder how your congregation compares to the larger community you serve? Here 's a special offer to explore that critical connection further.

My World
Do you wonder what all the change in the past 30 years has meant for the church? Visit this section to discover critical insights that can make all the difference in how you see the future.

Simply log on to the Link2Lead Web site at www.link2lead.com and register as a user at no cost. Follow the instructions on the site and begin a new adventure into the information world that will assist you and the leaders of your church in planning for mission and ministry!

Who:
Every member of the presbytery

How:
To look up a individual at the website:
  1. Go to
  2. www.lakemichiganpresbytery.org
  3. Click on the 'Members' tab
  4. Login. If you forgot your login information click on the 'Forgot Login?' link.
  5. After you have logged in, click on "Community". It is located to the left of the 'Edit' button.
  6. Under 'Community' click on 'Members'
  7. The system may ask you to login in again - this is a safety feature
  8. An alphabetical list of all members will be displayed.
  9. Page through people or you can search for a member by clicking the link on the right called 'Search Members' this is under the Members List drop down.
  10. Entered the desired criteria. For example Last Name Exactly 'Best"
  11. All persons with the last name Best will be displayed.
  12. You can email a person clicking on the "send email" link or by copying and pasting the email address into a new email message.
  13. If you want more information about a person, click on the photo.

To look up all members of a committee:
  1. You can repeat steps 1-8 above, then in the search criteria under
  2. Presbytery Assignments, select "includes" then click on the committee(s) you are interested in.

Skype Presbytery of Lake Michigan Logo
Free internet calls and video calls

Who: Camp Greenwood, CPM, PLM Staff (PNC, any committee or person looking to save money)

How:
With Skype you can make FREE calls over the internet to other people on Skype for as long as you like, to wherever you like. It is free to download.

Search for people by name and location or email address.

PNC's can use this to interview candidates when travel is too expensive.

Skype also gives you the ability to have up to 25 persons on one call (cheap way for committees hold conference calls).

Google Docs
Collaborative tool to view and edit documents

Who: Presbytery Staff (any committee or persons working on a document they'd like to share or work on remotely.)

How: Requires a Google Account (free). Launch your favorite browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc), login and then you can start editing your documents, spreadsheets and even your presentation slides. Share your documents between your colleagues and control who has rights to co-author your documents.

Google Docs is a great way to write and review a CIF!

Committee work stored all in one place accessible to all members!

Covenant Gathering, Presbytery Search Committees, Marshall Session

How:  Create and collaborate web pages, documents, discussions. All members receive email through one email address. The group stores all email messages by subject so it is easy to review previous discussions. Groups can be public (anyone can view) or private (only members can view).

Note:
There are many online groups whose functions are similar to Google Groups. Google groups is highlighted because it comes as part of the google account (google docs, google calendar, google talk and many more applications).
 
Dimdim
Web Conferencing - Great for sharing your desktop remotely.

Discipleship Ministry Team, PLM Staff

How:
Dimdim does not require users to install software on their computers to attend web meetings. Users can start or join meetings with just a few clicks. Dimdim is available for free so everyone can use it.

Dimdim features include desktop sharing, documents and presentation viewing, web site viewing and a virtual white board.

Dimdim has the ability to record a whole session so you can review at a later time.

Social Networking

Hastings First, Westminster Grand Rapids, Marshall First,
John Knox, Presbytery

How:
Facebook is a hugely popular Social Networking website. Users spend 2-10 hours a week at the site. It is a virtual hangout, complete with easy networking, content creation and interaction. You can blog, post photos, play games, start discussions, post events, chat, add friends to your network and then comment on just about everything. It is even possible to email directly to all your friends highlighting upcoming events or items of importance (e.g. responding to disasters).

Ask any Middle School or High School aged person.
