Michael Cappelletti, Jody Cicchese, Adolphe Coulibaly, and Lorena Henderson attended the Humanities Institute at Philips Exeter Academy from June 24-29. The conference is primarily for English and history teachers, and the work at Exeter is designed to explore and develop the use of student-centered, discussion-based education using the Harkness table. This "Harkness pedagogy" was created at Exeter in 1930, and the school remains a national authority on the subject. You can read more about Exeter and the Harkness table here. Also, keep an eye out when visiting campus for the brand new outdoor Harkness table, a gift from the parents of the Class of 2012! Throughout the summer Donna Goldstein was enrolled in a class on the brain and mental health disorders sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The course continues through September and focuses on cutting edge information on all aspects of mental health issues.
