It's been a busy and productive summer here at Rocky Hill.  While students and parents still have some summer vacation left to savor, we've got our sights set on the first days of school.

All School                                                          CALENDAR

Orientation
Orientation sessions in all divisions will take place on Thursday, August 30.  Please see division-specific times below.  The School Store will be open and lunch will be provided for families from 11:30 - 1:00.  The PTL will be on hand to meet new families and they are sponsoring an ice cream truck from 12:00 - 2:00.  Please contact Division Heads with any questions you may have.  

Forms D
ue Monday!
The deadline for the health forms distributed in the summer mailing is Monday!  Please remember that the School must have these before students are allowed into the classroom and before student-athletes can participate in practices.  The pink information sheets are vital to producing the School directory in a timely manner.  Please return completed forms by Monday. 

Summer Work & Booklist
Summer work for all students, which should be completed by the start of school, as well as the 2012-13 list of textbooks can be found online here.

First Day of School

Picture Day
Student Picture Day is Tuesday, September 4. Retake day is scheduled for Thursday, October 25. Please note that Grade 9 will have their pictures taken by the School during orientation for the student directory and then again on retake day for purchase.  Coffee Pond Photography will contact parents directly with purchasing information for all students.

Box Tops for Education
This is a very important and easy way to raise funds for Rocky Hill by clipping Box Tops coupons from hundreds of participating products.  Please drop box tops in any of the collection bins located throughout campus.

Upper School
Leadership Workshop
Tuesday, August 28  |  9:00 AM  - 2:00 PM  |  Flynn Academic Center
This is a mandatory event for US students in leadership positions.  Lunch will be provided.  This workshop will focus on the skills needed to become an effective student leader and will serve as an opportunity for goal setting as a larger group.  Contact Krista Haskell for more information. 

College Essay Guidance Class
Set up a one-on-one appointment to get the ball rolling on your college essay. Come with a draft for revision support or get help defining a topic through brainstorming exercises.  For more information, please contact Annie Reznik.

Junior History Project Jumpstart
Monday, Wednesday, Friday  |  August 20, 22 & 24  |  9:30 AM to 11:30 PM
As part of the Academic Preseason Program, students will have the opportunity to get an early start on their junior year history project in this course and will free up their academic calendar by doing some of the ground work in advance. Any other student with a history- or government-based research project ahead of them will also be able to take advantage of this time and faculty expertise to make important headway on their project.  Click here to learn more and to register.

Athletics
Sail On!
Bradley Adam '13 finished first out of 148 boats at the 420 North American Championships. He finished fifth at the US Sailing Junior Championships on San Francisco Bay. Next week he travels to the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon to participate in the US Sailing Youth Championships.

Alumni Spotlight
We love it when alumni visit! 
Trisha and Sulev Suvari '90, Mena Suvari '97 and AJ Suvari were in the area and stopped by for a tour of campus today.  Sulev is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army and Mena continues her successful acting career. 

Charlie Blanchard '84
won the 107th R.I. Golf Association Amateur Championship at Wanumetonomy this summer.  Charlie, who is the golf coach at Bryant University, also won the title in 2002. 
 
Phil Gyampo '11 is working as an intern and Jonathan Pine '11 is a field organizer for the David Cicilline Campaign.  Jonathan will be taking the first semester off to work on the Campaign and then will continue his studies at George Washington University as well as his work as legislative intern and press intern in Congressman Cicilline's DC office.
