Patty Pontarelli's first grade classroom was converted into a one-room schoolhouse for Pioneer Day. Students enjoyed doing their lessons on slates, churning butter in an authentic antique churn, baking biscuits from scratch, playing pioneer games, square dancing and much more!

Sounding Good

Tally-Ho!
Meg Myette is currently planning the second annual "Across the Pond Adventure" for March 2013.  This year's destination will be London, England, with day trips to both Cambridge and Stratford-upon-Avon.  This trip is open to all students who will be in grades 6-9 next year.  For more information, please email Meg Myette.

Box Tops for Education
Please drop box tops in any of the collection bins located throughout campus, as many will expire on June 1.  This is a very important and easy way to raise funds.

The Bulletin Corrections 
Every effort was made to ensure the accuracy of The Bulletin, however the following is a list of corrections.  Jackson Hawkins '17 became eligible for CTY in 2011 by scoring at or above the 95 percentile on a nationally normed test.

Jessilyn Ring '15 scored blue ribbons in the Rhode Island 4-H Photo Fine Arts Fair with her 2-D photography submissions  Winter Tree and Spring Iris, which was also selected as Best in Show and the 4-H Foundation Award.

Ryan Barrington '18 and Michael Santos '18 show off their toothpick bridge, constructed as a mathematics project, after testing it to see how much weight it could support.  Their bridge held 3,500 grams before falling.

Nancy Maguire-Rambo's fifth and seventh grade Spanish students enjoyed a muy deliciosa luncheon of tacos, chimichangas, burritos and quesadillas at El Tapatio in Wickford to celebrate the end of the year.

Submarine Visit
As part of their study of the American Revolution,
Niki Stanley's fourth grade students visited The Connecticut River Museum to see the world's first working, full-scale replica of David Bushnell's 1776 invention, the American Turtle submarine.  The model was designed by Joseph Leary and built by Fred Frese in 1976.
 
Big Apple Adventure
Planning is underway for a "LS Family Adventure" to New York City for Veterans Day weekend 2012.  This trip is open to all students and their parents who will be in grades 3-5 next year.  For more information, please email Meg Myette.
 
Alyssa Grayson '19 spoke to fourth graders at Wakefield Elementary School on wolves and their benefit to wildlife.  Senator Jack Reed was on hand to present her with a commendation for her work to preserve wolves.  Click here to watch some of the presentation.  Click here to read an article from the Providence Journal.
