Green Arts Week
The week's activities culminate tomorrow with an all-school beach clean up, students should dress appropriately, with the exception of grades 3-5 who will be dressed up for their off-campus field trip to the ballet.

National Latin Exam
Out of 45 Rocky Hill Middle and Upper School students who took the exam, 25 received accolades.  Brady Dill '15 and Shane Woolley '15 had perfect papers and William Larcom '12 received a college scholarship offer as a result of his performance.  Other accolades include:

Middle and Upper School Latin students will participate in an overnight marathon reading of the epic Latin poem, The Aeneid to raise money for the Global Literacy Foundation.  Last year, bleary-eyed students read all 12 books in 12 hours, raising $650.

Get Involved!
The planning committees for the Fall Classic Golf & Tennis Tournament (9/2012) and the PTL/Alumni Association Gala (4/2013) are forming now. The chairs are excited to get started and welcome any interested volunteers. Committee members can work on a variety of tasks: decorations, planning, volunteers, auctions, printed materials, etc. Attend the next planning meeting or contact a chair directly to learn more!

Annual Fund Participation Challenge Update

Great Finish 

The Math Team finished fourth at the RI Math League state tournament last week. Steven Petteruti '12 finished the season tied for first place among seniors in the state, and in second place overall statewide.

Last week, the Grade 12 Oceanography class took a trip to the Mystic Aquarium.

Senior Book Buyback

Seniors interested in selling their used textbooks back to the school for future students to purchase can do so by dropping them off in the blue box in Maria Emmons' office next week.  Students need to keep their AP textbooks until June.  Each book needs to be accompanied by a buyback form (except English paperbacks).

MS standardized testing will take place next week.

Visiting Artist
Dana Williams conducted a puppet-making workshop with sixth and seventh grade this week as part of Arts Week.

Harborhill Art Project

Seventh-graders will visit Harborhill on May 2.  They will work with those residents next year on a year-long art project. This is part of the new established community service connection between Rocky Hill and the surrounding area.

Abby Siegel '17 received an honorable mention for her essay submission to the 2012 Letters About Literature contest, a national reading promotion program of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.  This year, the program received 59,000 entries nationally and Abby received one of two honorable mentions in her age group in the state of RI.

Moving Performance

Lower School students enjoyed working with Newport's Island Moving Company last week and their hard work was put on display during a public dance performance for teachers and parents.

Parent Meeting

ACE representatives will present information from recent professional development conferences on Learning and the Brain to ACE parents in all three divisions. They will also establish divisional parent support teams. The initial discussion for parents will revolve around what has worked best for them when working on homework with their own children.

Athletics
Athletes of the Week
Softball player Lisa DeMoranville '15 and senior sailors William Larcom, Ford Kelly-Riley, Cameron Kilroy and Giles Van Gruisen were honored as Athletes of the Week.   


As of Monday, the sailing team was ranked first overall in the Major Independents - RI Group of the NESSA Team Racing Standings.

Boys' varsity lacrosse got on track with a big 19-3 win over St. Andrew's Monday afternoon.
Alumni
Alicia Cook '96 spoke with Middle School students about the Rhode Island Parent Information Network's 2nd Annual Walk to STOP Bullying in RI on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Roger Williams Park Carousel in Providence.  The Middle School is forming a team to participate.  Funds raised from the walk will support effective programs that help prevent bullying. Learn more.  While on campus she also got a chance to catch up with her former teachers Paul Tukey and Terry Coes.

Brendan Doherty's Campaign has hired Ian Prior '95 to manage the campaign full time. Prior, had been informally serving as an advisor to the campaign for several months.  Read more here.

Alisha Newton '03 will model Nicole Lebreux Original Apparel spring fashions and speak about environmentally responsible fashion in honor of Earth Day on Fox Providence's The Rhode Show tomorrow at 9:00 AM.
