World Cultures Week
On Monday, the Middle School began its immersion study of the Vietnam culture with the raising of the Vietnamese flag. Students have been learning about Vietnamese topography and natural resources, a historical timeline, the arts, music and dominant sports, the different regions and cultural attractions for tourists, as well as the importance of rice. Students heard from a young man who left Vietnam at the age of 17 and a veteran of the Vietnam war who spoke about this important part of our country's past and his experiences in Vietnam. Tomorrow is an exciting day, as Senator Sheldon Whitehouse will be on campus to speak with students about his recent trip to Vietnam. Students will also prepare and enjoy a feast of traditional Vietnamese food and a variety of performances, including a fan dance and water puppets. Click here for more photos.
Jody Cicchese's seventh-grade class worked collaboratively to research and investigate Mount Everest. They learned about such things as climate, geography, Sherpa culture, the history of climbing, and then incorporated the five themes of geography into the information.
