Senior Seminar: Exciting Business - Panel Presentation
The culminating event of the Senior Seminar occurred on February 16. Synthesizing what they had learned during the four evening presentations and workshops, six teams pitched their business plans to a panel of entrepreneurs and venture capitalists: Mr. Wayne Nemeth, Pelap Group - New York; David Corvese, Pharmalogic;  Andy Curtis, Kenyon Consumer Products - Rhode Island; and Richard Meringolo, Citizens Bank and Crystal Financial Corporation - Massachusetts.

The panel complimented the seniors on their innovative thinking, entrepreneurial skills, and enthusiasm and passion brought to an endeavor that, for many, was an unfamiliar undertaking. The panel was looking for a unique idea backed by sound financial planning and market sustainability. Two ideas stood out in an impressive selection: Smart Bulb-Light for the Future, pitched by Seth Curtis '12 and his team took first place, followed by Marketsmart: The Smart Way to Shop, pitched by Michael Caramadre '12 and his team.

The coordinators, John Hughes and Belinda Snyman, would once again like to thank Kathy Meringolo and all the senior mothers who catered and served the meals at the evening sessions and the celebration luncheon.

Middle School

Jump Rope for Heart

Middle School students provided event assistance and demonstrations for the Jump Rope for Heart event. This year's sixth-graders donated their PE time and did a wonderful job assisting the K-2 students' portion of the day. They also performed basic skills for K-5 to watch during the halftime demonstration. The eighth-graders delivered a nice surprise with a unique demonstration of their own. Ava Lamoureux '16 and Donna Russo '16 swung the rope for Tyler Gates '16 as he jumped from a push-up position and again while on a Pogo stick. Zachary Jennings '16 impressed with his unicycle riding.

World Cultures Week

The Middle School begins its immersion study of Vietnamese culture Monday. For the next week, students will learn about all aspects of Vietnam, including: the topography and natural resources, a historical timeline, the arts, music and dominant sports, the different regions and cultural attractions for tourists, as well as the importance of rice.  Students will be visited by a young man who left Vietnam at the age of 17, as well as a veteran of the Vietnam War.  Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, who recently returned from a fact-finding mission to Vietnam, will visit with students next Friday, March, 9.  The week ends with a feast of traditional Vietnamese food, prepared by the students, and a variety of performances, including a fan dance, and water puppets.
