First Year Family Coffee with Head of School

Last weekend, seniors Shannon O'Rourke, TJ Thran, Abby Moylan, Nick Parker, Dane Ardente, and Sam Hallowell competed in the Quahog Bowl, the RI/CT regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl at UConn Avery Point in Groton, CT. The competition was stiff, including some marine science charter and magnet high schools. Rocky Hill held their own, placing ninth.
Art Portfolio Exhibition

US students applying to art school will exhibit their art portfolios for the public. All are invited to attend.
Nick Charbonneau '13 competed against 22 other local high school students in the Rhode Island Shakespeare Competition, held in Providence last Sunday. The competition involved memorizing and performing a Shakespearean monologue and sonnet in front of a packed auditorium and a panel of judges. The English Department commends his involvement in this difficult undertaking.

Culminating a long-term research project, Grade 6 students held a Harkness discussion, while personifying a Greek god whom they had studied in depth.
Middle School Game Night

This is a chance for Middle School students (and Grade 5 too!) to put away the electronic games and have some old fashioned fun. Got a favorite board game? Bring it along! From Monopoly to Risk, Uno, Shoots and Ladders, and Bananagrams, it is a night of pure fun. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Nature's Classroom
Grade 7 students departed for Nature's Classroom in Charlton, MA, Wednesday morning for a three-day program focused on winter ecology, the environment and sustainability.

Jack Crow's second grade class recently visited DiLeonardo International, a local design firm, to get ideas and create plans for a city that they have started constructing in class.
Jump Rope for Heart
LS students have been learning the importance of making healthy choices to take care of their hearts, while helping the hearts of others by collecting donations for the American Heart Association. The big jump rope event starts tomorrow morning at 9:30 in the gym. Learn more

The Lost Art of Etiquette
At today's Community Meeting, LS students discussed table manners in the lunchroom.
Lego Learning Wall Thanks to a generous donation from alumnus and trustee Chuck Iacono '99, the Lower School entry hall is getting a makeover. The map is being replaced with a 12-foot by 6-foot Lego Learning Wall that will provide an engaging and multisensory tool for teaching. Imagine the problem solving that can be taught and practiced thanks to this new addition to our Lower School!
World Explorers
Not to be outdone by Middle School world (Canada) travelers, Grade 3 students have been exploring the breadth and depth of history to complete an assignment on a world explorer. They were asked to research life dates, early life, reasons for exploring, and what the explorer was famous for. Each student produced a portrait, a research paper, a country flag and dressed up as their explorer to be interviewed on campus. Click here for photos.

Girls Net a Win
With a starter and several other key substitutes missing, the girls' varsity basketball team traveled to Providence to face Central High School Tuesday and came away with a close and hard earned victory, 25 - 20. Katie Meringolo '12 scored a key bucket to regain the lead. Kaylie Walsh '14 added a jump shot from just inside the three-point line, and Assi Coulibaly '13 put the nail in the coffin with a shot from the top of the key. It was certainly a satisfying victory for the team.

Kate Corvese '05 is a CDC/CSTE Applied Epidemiology fellow placed at the Virginia Department of Health for two years. She is working in the Division of Surveillance and Investigation on a variety of projects related to the surveillance of infectious diseases throughout the state. Kate received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt and her master's from Yale.
Barrett L. Cavanagh '08 will graduate from the University of Vermont in May with a BS in mechanical engineering and engineering management. After 3 years of internships at various companies including General Electric, he recently accepted a position at United Technologies as part of the Operations Leadership Program. He will travel internationally and hold a number of positions within operations, gaining more experience, training and business education.
