Upper School

Community Service Opportunities
Students (16 and older) can volunteer at a local Habitat for Humanity project in Providence Saturday, January 28.  Contact Maureen Fahey for more information.

Danielle Trombley '13 and Nick Charbonneau '13 assisted Mr. Gnolfo in teaching the Grade 6 Latin class.

Upper School students recently attended a performance of Shakespeare's Hamlet at the Gamm Theatre.  Senior English students in Nick Barker's "Shakespeare and Modern Drama" elective and Mike Cappelletti's "Literature of Conflict" elective traveled to Pawtucket to see a matinee of the production.  Both classes had recently been studying the play and were pleased to see the text come to life on stage.

The Mock Trial Team won their first case!  Read more here.

Middle School

Grade 7 students learned a little about gravity, inertia and Newtonian physics while simulating riding on a roller coaster.  Mr. Wheeler used YouTube videos of actual roller coaster rides to illustrate the various forces while the students acted as riders, including yelling with excitement.

Sixth grade student Michael Santos '18 used a SMART Board to manipulate "algebra tiles" and simplify algebraic expressions in Mr. Jedrey's math class.

Five students chose to complete a challenge activity in Ms. Cicchese's Grade 7 geography class. They were asked to conduct research on locks and canals and how they help larger ships navigate the St. Lawrence River. They all came up with very creative ways to share their findings. Click here for photos.

Check out photos of Middle School students who chose to stay after school two days during the past week to review for the Geography Bee, which takes place in January. They used iPads loaded with the GeoBee review application.
Lower School
Grade 2 students worked in cooperation with Ms. Snyman's Upper School English class on a reading and writing project.  First, selections from "Sword in the Stone" focusing on the selections where Merlin transformed young Arthur into different animals were read aloud by the US students.  Then, Grade 2 students wrote transformation stories where they changed into an animal of their choice.  Students used an iPad application to take pictures of themselves and draw the transformation.  Next, they wrote about each step of the process.  US students joined LS students as they put this series of images into a program called "Comic Life" that produces a comic strip.  Click here for an example from Zoey Adams '22.
