We had not one, but two home playoff soccer games this week.  And although the boys' and girls' succumbed to their SENE opponents, the support from the greater Rocky Hill community was huge.  Thanks to all those who cheered and congratulations to both teams on a terrific effort!

Picture Retake Day

If you would like your child's picture to be retaken you must register with Coffee Pond and the cost will be $5.  If your child was absent on the original picture day you do not need to register and you will not be charged, this includes the 4th Grade class that was on a field trip.

Citrus Drive

Each year the East Greenwich Rotary Club supports an array of causes, including offering a college scholarship to a Rocky Hill School senior. If you would like to support Rotary and place an order for a box of oranges, grapefruit or pears, please mail in the form or purchase online. You can also order a citrus to donate to a local food pantry. The order deadline is Tuesday, November 15.

Upper School 
The dates for the Junior Class Trip to Washington D.C. have been finalized as April 10-13. Please note this is a change from what was originally published.

 

US Parent-Teacher Conferences will be taking place next Monday - Wednesday.

  

Perfection!

On October 26, the Math Team won the RI math league competition by (9+2i)(9-2i) points! Steve Petteruti '12 had a perfect score! 

 

Financial Aid Night has been rescheduled to Wednesday, December 7.

 

Middle School 


Planting a Winter Crop

Mr. Wheeler spent time with his Grade 6 science class setting up a cold frame in the Garden Classroom this past week. Students planted seedlings of spinach, kale and chard. Not only will they follow the growth of these plants over the next few months, but they will also tie this activity in with the greenhouse effect, strategies for regulating temperatures, and the water cycle.  As the plants get taller, the class will add to the height of the walls of the cold frame to provide the necessary space.

 

A Day in Pompeii

Grade 6 and 7 students traveled to the Boston Museum of Science to experience "A Day in Pompeii" exhibit. More than 250 priceless artifacts were displayed, painting a picture of the rich culture, spirituality and day-to-day customs of the people of ancient Pompeii. Students learned about the volcanic activity that preserved the city and interacted with museum educators at several hands-on stations. 

 

8 Up rescheduled for Wednesday, November 16. 

Eighth graders will experience a taste of what Upper School is really like when their English class is taught by Belinda Snyman, Dean of Academics and Upper School English teacher.  She will run a Harkness lesson that incorporates laptops.

Lower School 

Dia De Los Muertos

Grade 4 and 5 students put on a show for the rest of the Lower School last Friday in celebration of the Mexican holiday, the Day of the Dead. Poems and songs were performed in Spanish and there was a lot of dancing! Click here for a short video

Alumni, Board, Faculty Spotlight

Bridget S. Sullivan '01 and Board of Trustees member James Lehouiller completed the NYC Marathon. Bridget finished in 4:48:03 while Jamie ran a blistering 4:36:32. 

 

Rome Kirby '07 is a professional sailor with Puma Ocean Racing. He is currently aboard Mar Mostro competing in the Volvo Ocean Race - a 9-month, 39,000 mile endurance adventure with 11 sailors on a 70-foot boat. It is offshore sailing at the highest level and extremely dangerous and challenging on both the boats and the crew. Track the race here.

 

Trixie Dumas '81, Lower School Art teacher, will be traveling to Ireland with the WAKO/USA team over Thanksgiving Break to compete as a veteran female fighting competitor in the World Kickboxing Championships. Two years ago in Italy, Trixie won the silver medal in her division. Learn more

 

Director of Technology, Tom Adams, was elected to the Board of the Rhode Island affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education (RISTE). He represents non-public schools for the state of Rhode Island.
