Many thanks to all parents, students, alumni, faculty and friends that helped make Founders' Day the best one in recent memory. The fun never stops at Rocky Hill, and we have another event-filled week ahead: Open House Saturday, Flu clinic Monday, Annual Meeting Tuesday, very special PTL Speaker Thursday and Halloween festivities Friday, among others.

Admission Open House

Spread the word about this Saturday's Open House - a great opportunity to tour campus and talk with the new Head of School. It is also a good chance for 5th Grade parents to learn more about the Middle School and 8th Grade parents to learn more about the Upper School in preparation for next year's transitions. Annual Corporation Meeting

All parents, alumni and friends are welcome to attend. While Trustees meetings are typically closed, this is an open meeting intended to share important news and updates. The program will include reports from the Head of School, Board of Trustees President, Finance Committee, Committee on Trustees, Faculty Members, US Student Government and the community election of new Trustees.

Veterans Day Observance Ceremony

Parents Against Junk Dining Meeting

Parents Against Junk Dining is a task force composed of parents and faculty concerned with the nutrition of our students during the school day. We believe that every child at Rocky Hill deserves well-balanced, freshly prepared, nutritious and delicious meals. Fall Classic Helps Fund Important Needs on Campus!
Thank you again to everyone who supported the Fall Classic. Proceeds from the event will support the purchase of new US boys' and girls' basketball jerseys, P3 playground equipment, storage for our fleet of sailboats, campus lighting and security, and science equipment for Mariner - our floating classroom being readied for the water this spring. |

Financial Aid Night

Aida Mirante of the Salve Regina University Financial Aid Office will introduce parents and students to the college financial aid process. Ms. Mirante will detail the instructions for both the FAFSA and PROFILE forms, the major documents involved in applying for college financial aid. This is always an informative and well-received session, and we hope that all members of the Upper School community attend. If you have questions regarding this program or any other issue related to college placement, don't hesitate to call Paul Tukey in the College Counseling Office.
Costa Rica Deposits Due
Deposits of $250 for the spring break Costa Rica trip are due by Friday, October 28. Made out to Rocky Hill School, these checks will not be cashed until we have enough students to run the trip. Email Ms. Matson or Mrs. Wood for information, or visit www.ecologyproject.org. |

8th Grade Parent Night in Upper School Thursday, November 3 | 8:30 - 8:00 PM | Flynn Academic Center Don't miss this opportunity to meet faculty and learn more about the program, including the college counseling program, admission to the Upper School, athletic offerings and co-curricular programs. You'll also partake in classroom experiences using the Harkness table and technology.
Mr. Wheeler's 6th Grade environmental science class teamed with Mrs. Wood's 12 Grade oceanography class to work with plankton the 6th Grade caught from the bay.
Mr. Washburn's geometry class taught Geometer's Sketchpad software to Ms. Conroy's Sixth Grade math class. With the help of the older students, MS students learned about the sum of the angles for triangles. They were introduced to new vocabulary and how to translate or add color to simple shapes. In the next meeting, more angles and other shapes will be explored. |

Fall Sports Preview
8th Grade students are invited to participate in a fall Upper School athletic practice to get a sense of what they will be in for next year as freshmen. Permission slip.
On Thursday, October 20, 5th Grade girls will attend a Middle School field hockey practice and on Thursday, October 27, 5th Grade boys and girls will attend a Middle School soccer practice. From 2:30 - 3:30 PM, students will experience the athletic program that they will soon be entering. |

Box Tops for Education
Please drop box tops in any of the collection bins located throughout campus. This is a very important and easy way to raise funds. Last year the Lower School used the money to purchase speakers for the Blue Room.

Upper School math teacher Andy Washburn will row in a double scull this weekend at the legendary Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
Director of International Programs Jacqui Yamada met with ASSIST representatives and board members who are interested in partnering with Rocky Hill for placement of students. ASSIST is an organization that recruits, screens and places foreign exchange students from Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania, Moldova, Palestine, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and Vietnam. |
