MS Parent Conferences will take place next week (October 11 - 14).
MS Parent Night in School is next Wednesday, October 12.
How Big is Our Garden?
The 8th Grade measured plantable areas in our new Garden Classroom. Working in teams, students had to draw on their knowledge of finding the area of regular shapes and strategize how to find the area of portions of these shapes. The follow-up challenge will involve determining how many corn plants could be planted if the seeds should be sowed 2" apart in double rows spaced 6" apart, with 24" between each set of rows. Even farmers use mathematics!
Promoting Wellness
Mr. Will Slotnick, founder and director of the Wellness Collaborative, is on campus this week working with Middle School students. Wellness Collaborative is an organization that promotes health and prevention of addiction. Will has worked as a substance abuse prevention and wellness specialist for more than 20 years, and has provided education programs and consulting services to thousands of students, parents, faculty and administrators at hundreds of private and public schools across the country.
The sessions Will runs with the students are highly interactive and experiential. They involve presentations, discussions, stress management techniques and mindfulness exercises. The students are encouraged to practice and integrate what they learn into all areas of their lives.
Will is speaking to interested parents the PTL's Breakfast Club this Friday as well as Thursday, October 27 at 7:00 PM during the PTL's Speaker Forum.
