All hands were on deck when sod was delivered for the Garden Classroom and in the true spirit of the garden, we are inviting one and all to a Community Planting Day next Friday to put the finishing touches on this integral new part of campus.

8 + 3 = Fun!

This week, Mrs. Johnson's 3rd Grade class and Ms. Conroy's 8th Grade algebra class got together to share a lesson on graphing. The students used the SMART Board to create a histogram using birth dates and graph paper to create a Venn diagram or bar graph regarding dog and cat data.  The was the first time both classes got together, so the excitement was high and everyone is looking forward to next month's topic.

Professional Development

This summer, Abby Wood, Upper School marine and environmental sciences teacher, attended the "Why Do We Explore" workshop presented by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Ocean Exploration and Research, and in partnership with the Inner Space Center (ISC) and Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE).  This workshop encouraged educators and students to become personally involved with the voyages and discoveries of the NOAA Okeanos Explorer, America's first federal ship dedicated solely to ocean exploration.  Focus was put on how to use inquiry and standards-based lessons and other online resources that guide classroom inquiries into the key topics of climate change, energy, ocean health and human health.

Send any news, photos, kudos and comments to Karen Gibson by noon on Wednesdays.
