Social Contract
All Middle School students signed the social contract which will guide them this year.

Middle School Social Contract

Philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau is famous for believing that in civilized society, freedom and the ability to reach goals rests on the idea of a social contract. Middle School students met this week to create their own social contract to guide and evaluate their actions throughout the coming school year.

Small groups first met in homerooms to brainstorm. Then each grade sorted and consolidated suggestions into lists which representatives Kent Hanlon '18, Charlotte Roch '18, Cassidy Santos '17, Jamie Frost '17, Sabrina Dumas '16 and Austin Marsilia '16 merged into a final contract during a "constitutional convention". The result:

  • Make the best of everything.
  • Always strive for excellence.
  • Treat others as you want to be treated.
  • Be respectful, be responsible, be positive.

Athletics

Athletes of the Week

Congratulations to cross country superstar Aaron Bullock '12 and field hockey workhorse Abby Moylan '12Read more here.

Middle School soccer players have laced up cleats, tucked in shin guards and are working hard to prepare for the fall season. Last year, our soccer teams brought us some of our most memorable athletic moments and we look forward to another wonderful fall season under the tutelage of Tim Greenwood, Theresa Conroy, Blue Wheeler and Sue Wood.

After a long hiatus, Middle School field hockey returns, coached by Trixie Dumas. Eleven girls are off to a great beginning. Two notable quotes were: "It's only been a week and we are already getting better," and "The hard part is learning NOT to use the other side of the stick."

The water is warm and the fall breezes are ideal for our introductory Middle School sailing program, led by Matt Hill and Greg Crout. Geared for the novice sailor, the program takes advantage of the safe confines of our end of the Potowomut River. Come down and enjoy the swans and egrets that inhabit the shoreline, and check out our young sailors as they navigate their way from shore to shore and buoy to buoy.
