Enviroweek
The Middle School launched the year with knees in mud, soaked to the skin, sand in shoes and smiles on faces. Despite a deluge Thursday morning, all important Enviroweek activities took place including: 6th Grade - seining on the salt marsh, kayaking towards the mouth of the Greene River, visiting the Rhode Island Resource and Recovery facility in Johnston, and an educational voyage on the research vessel Cap'N Bert out of Wickford Harbor. 7th Grade - focused on our estuary, designed experiments to clean up a "toxic" spill, visited various sites on the Hunt River watershed, and kayaked on Ninigret Pond. 8th Grade researched the Monadnock region of New Hampshire and enjoyed a rainy paddle in the kayaks. They visited the Museum of Work and Culture in Woonsocket, and hiked Mt. Monadnock, camping out in Greenfield, NH. The 6th and 7th grades also camped out on the front lawn of Hopelands last night.
Enviroweek builds community and introduces new students to their classmates and to Rocky Hill. It takes full advantage of our remarkable waterfront campus. The Middle School is off to a wonderful start, the lessons learned and relationships built during this time lay the foundation for a great year. |
