Dear Colleague

Firstly we would like to say massive congratulations to a local school with whom we have been working to promote and deliver emotional wellbeing for many years. The Springfields Academy has been named as the Overall 2012 Outstanding School of the Year at last Friday's TES Schools Awards. It was because of Springfields and their visionary head Trystan Williams that we wrote the programme Discovering Me, now being used in many PRUs and other settings around the country. Their pioneering project at the Spel Centre , (Springfields Emotional Literacy Centre) has helped many young people from schools in the area, who were on a possible path to exclusion, to turn their lives around.

SELC logo 2The judges said: "Springfields is an extraordinary school, doing groundbreaking work with its own pupils and also providing invaluable support to other schools. In their drive to show pupils that anything is possible, staff from Springfields go to the ends of the earth - literally."

Perhaps now is the time to be planning how your school can address the crucial aspect of emotional wellbeing in education. Ofsted now gives 25% of its marks on Behaviour and Safety of Pupils, and is very clear about the importance of attending to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural education of our young people. VisionWorks programmes are professional and proven schemes of work which will allow you to  deliver these key themes in a comprehensive and user friendly way. Me time

You have spent most of the past eleven months thinking about the needs of others. Now it's time to think about yourself! This may help you.

Shawn Achor, the positive psychologist, has spent over a decade researching Happiness at Harvard University. He has narrowed down the achievement of happiness to the following 5 actions:

1.  At the end of each day, focus on 3 positive things that have happened during the day

2. Take one of those things and write about it in a journal

3. Meditate

4. Exercise

5. Do random acts of kindness.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

We hope you enjoy your break...see you next term!
