REQUEST FROM SOCIAL ACTION

Can we ask you please to resume your generous food contributions to our lobby bin?  An easy reminder would be to take this list plus one of our grocery bags to fill, and leave them in your car as a reference for what is needed when you shop.  The two pantries we support can always use:

CANS of, soup, pasta, sauce, fish, vegetables, beans and fruits

JARS of peanut butter and jelly

BOXES of pasta, cereal, rice, stuffing, instant potatoes, milk and cake mixes.

AS YOU KNOW, MANY OF THESE ITEMS ARE OFTEN ON SALE!

If each of you brings in a filled bag from time to time, it will make a tremendous difference.  IT HAS ALREADY!

Thank you now and always.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE!!!

The Orot Committee invites you to join exciting NEW WEEKLY CLASSES:

The Absolute Beginner's Introduction To Talmud:  What is it, why do we need it, what ethical and practical lessons does it teach?

Beginning Friday,

December 3 from 10:30am-12.00 in the library

 taught by Wendy Segal:

This class is designed to introduce Talmud to the adult with no previous familiarity with Talmud.  No Hebrew reading is required.  The Babylonian Talmud was finished about 1,500 years ago.  What is it?  Why do people still study it?  Why was it the subject of book-burnings?  We'll look at how and why the Talmud was written, and then we'll look at a piece of the section on civil law.  What are your responsibilities if you borrow something and lose it?  What should you do if you find someone's cat?  What does your shoemaker owe you if he dyes your party shoes the wrong color?  Whose fault is it if your neighbor's dog falls into your pool and drowns?  Come and learn, read, and argue like the sages of old as we explore the sea of Talmud.

Please sign up in the office by replying to this email or calling 245-2324 so that we know how many copies of materials to make.

A Beginners Hebrew Class

Come and learn to read Hebrew, starting with the aleph-bet.  The class will be based on the National Jewish Outreach Program, and will begin on Monday, November 15th from 7-8pm, classroom 9.  It's an amazing, anxiety-free journey for all beginners. Come and take that first step. You can sign up through the office or contact Hazzan Isabel Kopstein at 420-7844.
