SISTERHOOD NEWS:

The High Holidays are upon us!  Bar and Bat Mitzvah season is back!
If you need a gift for someone or want to treat yourself -
COME TO THE SISTERHOOD GIFT SHOP!!

We have many lovely items - jewelry, hostess gifts, ritual items, cards and toys.  Remember, every dollar you spend here (and it's less expensive than those retail stores) supports YOUR Sisterhood...and your Sisterhood supports the Yorktown Jewish Center.  By appointment only - but I will accommodate all buyers.
Call Marsha Sternstein at 914-245-1024.

One more thing,  Lori Lerman has been trying to put together a new Sisterhood Cook Book.  If you have a recipe you'd like to have included, please just send it along to Lori or Sharon Sigler.  We would like as many participants as possible, so don't be shy!

MEN'S CLUB NEWS - Mark your calendars men!

  • If you are going to be around Labor Day Weekend, please let me know if you can assist with the moving of the prayer books. I would like to see if we can do this at 9:00 AM on Sunday, September 5.  Please let me know if you can assist.

  • With the early holidays and Yom Kippur falling on Shabbat, we will need to build the Sukkah on Sunday, September 19th.  All Men's Club Members are invited to assist and to kibbitz as we try to construct the Sukkah, hopefully on the first try.  We will meet at 8:30 am on Sunday, September 19th.  Please join us for some camaraderie and a cup of coffee.

  • Sunday, October 3 will be the first time that the Men's Club will organize the Rummage Sale.  We will need all the help we can get....

Religious School News:

Last year, we enhanced the Hebrew School program by serving a nutritious, tasty, kosher dinner each Wednesday during the school year to all of our Hebrew school students.  This endeavor, run by our rebbitzen Marsha Sternstein, provides our children with an opportunity for informal learning that enriches our students' experience with us -- but Marsha can't do it alone.  Last year, some of our parents volunteered to set up, cook occasionally, and clean up.

This year, we're requesting all Hebrew school families participate.  But you don't have to have a child in the school to help.  If you can help to set up (5:30 - 6:15), serve (6:15 - 6:45), or clean up (6:45 - 7:15), or if you can come in even once or twice to cook, Marsha would be glad to work with you to show you what needs to be done.  I'm keeping a schedule so all dates are covered, so if you can commit to a date or two in advance, kindly call me (243-9059) or email me (segalfam@optonline.net) to let me know.  Drop in helpers are also most welcome.

Our children get so much from sharing dinner with their classmates and teachers.  They would be so grateful for your help.

Wendy Segal
