Library Vision

The Library's mission is to provide resources and services in support of the teaching and learning needs of the Northern Westchester Jewish Community, and to create a Beth HaMidrash, a house of study, for Jewish life in all its aspects.  To fulfill this mission, the Library commits to:

  • Understand  the teaching and  learning needs of current and prospective users
  • Serve the needs of both adults and children; serve the needs of novices and scholars
  • Build collections and create tools to support Jewish research, teaching and  learning;
  • Promote the discovery and use of external Jewish information resources such as:
                 * The Internet
                 * The  libraries of The Jewish Theological Seminary

                 * The Jewish resources available in the NY Metro Region
  • Create hospitable physical and virtual environments for study, teaching and research

The Yorktown Jewish Center, a Conservative Synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, was founded in 1952. It is a fully egalitarian, modern synagogue with traditional values. A library has been a part of its offerings since the earliest years - and numerous supporters have helped fund an expanded library during the last two waves of renovation, seeing a library and Beth HaMidrash as essential to the role of a synagogue. We encourage your support in joining "Friends of the Yorktown Jewish Library," to enable fulfillment of our vision. We envision a library advisory board composed of members of the "Friends of the Yorktown Jewish Library." Please take a moment to consider a gift - and any recommendations you might have on how to achieve our vision.
