Birth Annoucement:

Uri and Tina Lemberger are the proud grandparents of a new grandson.  Cantor Lemberger writes:

"Menachem Mendel Lemberger was born December 21st (3 weeks early), weighing in at 5 pounds 15 ounces. His parents, Dassy and Gidon Lemberger, think their little tzaddik (righteous person) will grow to be a famous, learned rabbi. He is named for Dassy's maternal grandfather, and Gidon's maternal grandfather (both were Menachem Mendel). They have not yet decided what they will call him on a regular basis - right now they are using tzaddik."

Please join us in wishing Cantor and Tina a Mazel Tov!

Community News:

The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) will host an advance screening to their "Westchester Jewish Film Festival" (opening April 7 for three weeks) on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at both 10 am and 12:30 pm with screenings of Saviors in the Night.  A Q&A with 97-year old Marga Spiegel, the subject of the film, and director Ludi Boeken will follow each screening. Ticket prices are $10 for JBFC members and $15 for nonmembers. AJC members will receive the JBFC member price.

The film is a riveting, real life drama of a Jewish family, the Spiegels, who found refuge among German farmers for nearly three years during WWII. Based on the memoirs of Marga Spiegel, it's a fascinating account of rural life during wartime Westphalia, as the Spiegels sought shelter to escape deportation to the death camps. Ludi Boeken. 2009. 97 m. NR. Germany/ France,  German, French, English with subtitles.

Tickets can be purchased on our website at http://www.burnsfilmcenter.org/films/buy-tickets?date=1263704400#24390 and at the box office which opens one hour before the first show Monday-Friday and 11am on weekends. Group sales at a discounted ticket price are available by calling 914.773.7663, ext. 410. The Theater is located at 364 Manville Road in Pleasantville.
