The RenewPA approach is two-pronged. At the state level, RenewPA will work with the Rendell Administration, the General Assembly and key statewide partners and associations to craft a ?Common Sense Agenda? for Pennsylvania.

On the regional level, RenewPA will work with regional leaders and community groups where the citizens and leaders have organized themselves to focus on their core communities, preserve their open space and farmlands and target public investment in a way that smartly grows their region.

"We have the rare opportunity now to change our future -- to focus on the opportunities while dealing with the challenges." That's part of a message from Todd Vonderheid (on the left, in the picture taken during a recent talk in Erie), director of strategy for the Campaign to Renew Pennsylvania. The funding of our transportation network -- our roads, bridges and transit systems -- impacts every community. Pennsylvania's decision-makers are developing solutions to our pressing road, bridge and transit needs. The legislative process has begun with a set of recommendations by the Transportation Funding and Reform Commission.

We propose real reform in several ways:
1) Invest in our existing infrastructures and communities first.

2) Adequately fund our public transportation authorities. Whether urban or rural, growing communities and older neighborhoods are especially affected by public transportation shortfalls.

3) Strongly link land use and transportation funding. Encourage local and municipal government planning organizations to invest in projects that apply smart growth principles to support our existing infrastructure. At the state level, transportation must be integrated with land use, economic development and environmental policies, programs, and goals. ... MORE
Regional Initiatives Map
Regional cooperation is blossoming all over Pennsylvania. Municipalities are relying more and more on the ability to work together to improve the delivery of services to its residents, like police protection, water services and joint purchasing. To take stock of these important projects, RenewPA has created an interactive catalog and map of some of these regional initiatives.

Take a look, and let us know if you have a regional initiative you'd like to share. ... MORE
