10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania is an alliance of organizations and individuals committed to promoting land use policies and actions that will enable Pennsylvania to strengthen its diverse urban, suburban, and rural communities.

In the Southeastern region of Pennsylvania, 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania has begun developing an action agenda with regional and local leaders, builders and advocates for Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties. Our goal is to create a better roadmap for growth that strengthens our regional economy and makes Southeastern Pennsylvania a more prosperous and healthy place to live. Read Our Vision.

Housing and Employment: Data and Strategies
During September and October of 2006, the Network examined the relationship between workforce housing and employment centers in the region. The Reinvestment Fund created a regional map for the discussion that showed the concentrations of minimum wage jobs throughout the region and then documented the communities where a two-wage-earner family earning the minimum wage could live. In October 2004, the Building Industry Association of Philadelphia (BIA) along with the ?When We Fix It Coalition? released ?If We Fix It, They Will Come.? This report endorsed by government and civic leadership provided recommendations to modernize the city?s 40-year-old zoning code ? a zoning code founded upon inaccurate projections of continuing growth that favored low-density suburban-like building patterns while making the classic Philadelphia rowhome illegal as a ?non-conforming use.?
