It's the chakra of surviving and self-preservation. When you stand strongly in your root
chakra you feel stable, grounded and very, very present in this moment. Feel the physical presence of your
body. Enjoy the pleasures of your
physical life force. This is the
chakra that houses your will to live.
A root chakra that is not balanced presents in a variety of
ways. Here are a few: you may feel
unstable, trip over your feet, and/or don't feel you can stand-up for
yourself. You become overly
materialistic or dependent on others.
You feel ungrounded and not rooted in one place.
Your chakra system is the storehouse for every thought and
emotion you think and feel. Your
root chakra, also called the first chakra or muladhara is located at the base
of your spine at your coccyx. It
has these characteristics:
Governs: physical support of body: hips, legs, feet
Major
psychological function: Survival, safety, vitality, pleasure, pain
Color: Red
Sound: "Oh" as in "OM"
A
Root Chakra Subtle energy exercise and visualization:
Because
the root chakra is the chakra that governs our hips, legs and feet. Any exercise that engages your hips
and/or legs and/or feet will naturally energize this chakra and help you feel
more grounded. Some common sense physical movements are: kicking, stomping your feet, running,
jogging and dancing.
Try
this subtle energy visualization and exercise to strengthen your root chakra:
1. Be open with your self. Take a
few deep abdominal breaths.
2. Bring your awareness to the base of
your spine, to the very tip at the coccyx. Your root chakra is here. It's
the place of being grounded and stable with your life's force.
3. Visualize a red colored ball of
light - an orb of red light spinning at the base of your spine.
4. Breathe normally and visualize. Focus and imagine, sense, feel
and know the color red.
5. Spin open your first chakra red in a
clockwise direction. Spin it now.
6. Take some time, breathing and
spinning your red root chakra open.
7. Now pause and then stop visualizing
and simply notice. Witness and
experience the energy. What do you
sense?
