LetterDear Friend,

Can you believe that another year is already almost here? Perhaps you have deep longings for 2011 -- things you want God to do in your life, a loved one's life...on your job or in your ministry.

There is something you can do next month that will set the course for what God does in your life throughout 2011 -- something that will bring you closer to God and release His wisdom, guidance and blessing in every area of your life.

There is no better way to begin the year than with a Biblical fast. Just as beginning our day with prayer sets the course for the rest of the day and affects anything that might happen, so beginning the year with a fast affects not only our inward relationship with God, but also circumstances and blessing throughout the entire year.

We give God the first of our day, the first of our week and the first of our income.  Why not the first of the year? "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Mt. 6:33).

When we give God the the first of our year in prayer and fasting...He gives to us all year long. During April, May, June...and even into December, we receive blessings that wouldn't be ours if we hadn't dedicated the first to God in January with a fast.

Fasting was never meant to be the rare practice that it is today among Christians. After Jesus called his disciples, He gave them their first public teaching in the Sermon on the Mount. In it He explained to them the kingdom of God -- its laws and life. He provided the pattern by which each of us is to live as a child of God. This pattern mentions three specific responsibilities: giving, praying and fasting.

In this passage Jesus said, "When you give...", "When you pray" and "When you fast." He made it obvious that fasting is to be a regular part of the Christian life. He did not say "if you fast" but "when you fast." We are to give as much focus and priority to fasting as we do to giving and praying

Jesus doesn't expect us, His modern day disciples, to do something He didn't do. If the Word of God -- the One who spoke this world into being -- found fasting necessary in God's economy, then who are we to try to live by any other standard? Who are we to think that we can attempt to live without it? In his book Fasting, Jentezen Franklin asks a poignant question:

"If Jesus could have accomplished all He came to do without fasting, why would He fast? The Son of God fasted because He knew there were supernatural things that could only be released that way. How much more should fasting be a common practice in our lives."

Jesus said in John 13,"You address me as 'Teacher' and 'Master,' and rightly so. That is what I am...I've laid down a pattern for you.  What I've done, you do...If you understand what I'm telling you, act like it - and live a blessed life."

I want to live a blessed life, don't you? And blessings are released in the supernatural realm when we fast.

God gives us insight about His plan for our lives...and the specific actions that will bring it about. Bondages of sin are broken!  Relationships are restored! Heavy burdens are lifted! An anointing of God's presence descends upon the entire year!

Friend, I would like to personally invite you to join me for Pursuit 21 - twenty-one days of prayer and fasting, giving God the first of 2011. I believe God wants to do something special in your life that will not occur apart from fasting and prayer. "This kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting" (Mt. 17:21).

I encourage you to plan to join me in Pursuit 21 , a powerful, unrivaled spiritual launching pad for the new year.

I have already begun praying for you, that you will hear the Holy Spirit's voice as to how He wants you to fast. You might like to visit our website for helpful information about the different kinds of fasts...and for tips, teaching and encouragement

Make plans to join us at Passionate Pursuit on January 13th. You'll be encouraged by the message on fasting and the presence of fasting partners who'll be joining you on this amazing journey.

Fasting with friends is powerful...and so much easier!  Knowing that others are fasting with you is incredibly helpful!

That's why I believe this is the perfect opportunity for us to fast together - to reap spiritual benefit and have the support system of fasting with friends.

I'm excited for what God has in store for us individually and corporately as we begin 2011 with fasting and prayer!

Mark your calendar, invite your friends and register today! Thursday, January 13, 2011 @ 6:30 p.m.  Join me in a Passionate Pursuit and let's experience God's promised reward.

"I just wanted to thank you so very much for the message that you shared with us all tonight.  In all my nearly 32 years of being in...churches, I have NEVER heard the message that I heard tonight.  I never realized the importance and the need of fasting, what it REALLY means, and how to apply it in my life.   Thank you for sharing these truths with us....What an awesome thing God has allowed for us to experience with Him!!!...Praying and fasting is definitely something that our family will participate in from now on. I am doing a partial fast for the 21 days.I find that I am going to God so much more in prayer during the day. It is quite an exhilarating experience!!!..."

Dayna

"Last night [Fasting Prayer Meeting] was a special time for me and for all of us as we prayed together..."

- Judy

"I have appreciated what you have shared on fasting and the different resources you have mentioned. About a month ago, I began feeling like in addition to the 'extra' praying I was doing for my dad concerning his cancer and treatments, that God was urging me to fast 2 days a week as part of my prayer time for Dad....As I read your experiences and encouragement, I felt the Father ask me again to do this for my dad as a act of love and obedience. So for a couple of weeks now, I have added this to my weekly routine. Whether it affects God answering my prayers for my dad's physical needs or not, I feel a renewing of my peace and joy from my obedience. In addition, my dad says he has had no side effects from his radiation treatments so far and he claims that as an answer to prayer-as do I. Thanks for your encouragement and willingness to speak to us from what the Father has given you."

- Mark

Natalie, There's no way I could adequately express my thanks to you and praise to God for the awesome experience we had tonight and for your leadership in this fast. It is something I have felt led to do, but as I said before it never "worked" for me. You and God showed me what it really means to fast and what a powerful tool fasting is in our walk with God. I am definitely "in" and plan to make fasting a way of life from now on. How blessed I have been these last 21 days. I can only imagine what lies ahead! :) I'll never be the same!!

-J.M.

I am blessed that my entire family (husband and 3 kids - one is four years old) are all fasting together. The support of the whole family is very encouraging and we each have something we are focused on seeing God work in us. For my 4 year old, we are praying for God to work through a surgery he will have on Feb. 2nd...We...are looking forward to the next 19 days. Thanks for your resources and prayerful support.

-Paula

Re: Giving God the First

Natalie, Thank you for that reminder and explanation about the need and privilege to fast. I think this idea of being part of a group is very encouraging. I have overindulged this Christmas season and have been dry spiritually even when God kept pouring His blessings. I even forgot to pray last Thursday and only remembered it on Friday night. I need to be quiet before my God again and give Him the stress this season brings. I plan to slow down/pace my eating so that [when the fast begins], I will be ready with God's help. I have not decided what kind of fasting to do but as you said I will ask our Lord and wait on Him....For His glory, honor and praise,

- Agnes

TESTIMONIES

I have been blessed once more with the message ["Cash it.Don't Trash it."] I am much encouraged to persevere even when the "fig tree does not have fruit."
I am still seeing fruits from the fasting period early this year. God is faithful!"
- A.E.

"'Cash it. Don't Trash It' was a message for me. God spoke a word to me regarding my exact situation and need."
- J.P.

"This word was for me. God gave me those specific verses in the beginning [regarding my circumstance] and reaffirmed them in the message tonight."
- J.R.

"I prayed the Prayer of Salvation...I finished the 21 day fast then started the Daniel fast till Easter. I'm doing Bible study every night. I know God sent me to you. Just those 3 words have changed my life:
"Miracle of Prayer"
- L.P.

"There's no way I could adequately express my thanks to you and praise to God for the awesome experience we had tonight and for your leadership in this fast. I'll never be the same!!

"Thank you so very much for the message that you shared with us tonight.  In all my nearly 32 years of being in...church, I have NEVER heard the message that I heard tonight.  I never realized the importance and the need of fasting, what it REALLY means, and how to apply it in my life.   Thank you for sharing these truths with us.  I was so excited that I came home and "talked my husband's ear off" telling him of all the things I learned tonight.  I can't wait until we all meet again...and learn of the things God is doing and going to do in our lives.  What an awesome thing God has allowed for us to experience with Him!!!"
- D.S.

"I went tonight not being convicted about fasting. I left there VERY convicted.....I'm in! It was a great night in the Lord, thanks Natalie! I am truly refreshed."
- L.H.

"[Passionate Pursuit] last Thursday was 'Powerful, dynamic and so anointed'. I realize that I definitely was lead by God to be there at that meeting. I was suppose to work that day...God had other plans. Praise Him. I definitely was convicted that night to start the fast. And, HE has been so faithful and has given me the strength and power to 'stick with it'. Praise the Lord. So thank you Natalie and I can hardly wait to 'see the results'. I KNOW THEY WILL HAPPEN. PRAISE GOD.
- B.M

We belong to a new, small church. Our pastor is teaching on fasting. Your insights have been helpful to me in explaining [fasting] to so many in our group who find this idea a whole new concept. Thanks for the teaching!
- T.L.

"I have been following your blogs about fasting and wanted you to know they are so wonderful and encouraging through this fast."
- J.P.

"I saw your post (Isa
iah 58:1, "Like a Trumpet"). It is my desire that God would develop me into that kind of man. Thanks for your boldness..."

- K.W.

"The day I heard your testimony was a life-changing day for me.  I have never been the same since! We Christians are in and out of the Word.  We don't know its value. Your testimony
showed me that the
Word is our only hope."
- M.N.
