I'm just back from a great trip to Dubai,
Singapore and Malaysia and, you know, I can't think of
three better
places to spend time - all three are vibrant and
humming - and you can't help but get caught up in it.
Which also reminds me - what
a difference good service makes!
I seem recently to have been experiencing the two
extremes - and whilst it's the bad service that
sticks in your mind the longest, let me share with
you
two establishments that leave you with the warm glow
of having had
a wonderful experience.
Chris, my wife, and I have fallen in love with The Scilly
Islands - which for those who don't know, are
about 30
miles into the Atlantic off
the South West tip of England. We fly there by
helicopter (how else!) and we stay the night before the
flight in the
lovely town of Penzance in Cornwall.
We have discovered a small hotel there, The Camilla
House, which is exceptional. Susan and Simon
Chapman gave up the rat race in London and moved
to Penzance four years
ago and they have just finished refurbishing the hotel
up to
their very high standards. It's very special.
On a similar vein I've now stayed at two Shire Hotels
in the UK- indeed we ran a recent Professional
Speakers Association National Meeting at their Leeds
hotel and it's a similar story of service. The staff simply
cannot do enough for you, the facilities are
excellent .and the food exceptional - and how many
hotel chains can you say that about?
Now what have I just done? I have given you both a
testimonial and a referral for The Camilla House
and for
Shire Hotels.
Are you now more pre-disposed to consider staying
there the next time
you are in a position to do so?
Of course you are - and that's the power of Ts and Rs!
Read on................
I hope you enjoy this newsletter and find it valuable.

PS. This month's book recommendation is not a business book but a novel - Restless by William Boyd. I think he's a brilliant writer and this book is a tremendous read!

Mind your Ts and Rs for Free Business Growth
In my sort of business testimonials and referrals are
the oxygen that powers the business growth. I try
never to miss an opportunity to ask a Client, or a
delegate, for a testimonial and similarly I always try to
obtain three referrals from every Client I have.
But why should that apply only to my sort of
business? I'm sure we've all been in shoe shops
where the assistant says:
"a good choice sir (or madam) - I've got a pair of
those".
That's a testimonial and it does help persuade us to
buy.
It is just the same for your business - no matter what
it is, no matter what size of business you are,
prospective clients will be more likely to buy your
products or services if they see, or hear, testimonials
from others talking about the experience they have
had with you and/or your products or services.

If you're not doing business here - why not?
Which world economy is growing faster than
China's? - answer, Dubai.
There are currently business opportunities in Dubai
like nowhere else in the world.
Every sector of the economy is growing, and growing
rapidly and the region is hungry for products and
services of the highest quality. Whilst we probably all
imagine that the construction industry is booming
there it's much more than that. On a recent visit to
Dubai and was amazed, for example, at how many
British solicitors I met who are resident there with
practices growing all the time.
No longer is Dubai just about oil - In 2005 94% of
GDP came from non-oil sectors ? and it?s all kinds of
sectors. Do you know, for example, that Hello
magazine, and other well known titles, are published
in Dubai ? by Motivate
Publishing
