Hi,
I wear my emotions on my sleeve, so I feel I should tell you why I have been distracted (at the least) the past couple of weeks. Doris Shapiro Pressman, my mom, died last Saturday, June 5th. Being very much a product of both my parents (My dad, Charles, died within four days and at the same hour 18 years ago.) I want to tell you how fortunate, how spoiled, I have been in my life. To have two extraordinary parents who loved me and gave me so much, well, I will never take that for granted. I'm not much of a believer in the concept of an afterlife, but I do hope they have reunited in some way - they had such a great time in their 45 years together!

Chesapeake Wine Company will be joining Victoria's Fancy Foods (Severna Park, Maryland) for a special field trip to Black Ankle Vineyards, in Mt. Airy, Maryland. Victoria Stagmer is preparing the movable feast; CWC is arranging the transportation and refreshments. Stay tuned for details like departure times, pricing, etc.
Wine of the Week
aviinyo vi d'agulla Avinyo - Penedes, Spain
Vi d'Agulla '09

Here's one of the beverages we'll be drinking around my place this summer. I am reluctant to tell you the grape variety - ok, it's Petit Gran Muscat - because you might jump to the conclusion that this wine is sweet. Actually, it's dry and frizzante, and refreshingly low in alcohol (10.5%).

Tasting notes: Ooh, bubbles! Faintly floral/mineral/citrus smells and fizzy, dry, refreshing flavors. Easy to gulp.
$16

Serving suggestion: Pop a few of bottles of this in ice, grab a blanket, find a spot on the hill in Patterson Park this Sunday (6/13), sit back and relax while listening to Marianne Metheny-Katz (6:30-8:30pm) sing some jazz.
