Because You Never Stop Learning (YNSL), I'm suggesting ways - in a series of notes - for you to continue your leadership development, to learn new skills, to invest in yourself as a leader or manager of team members, to continuously work on developing those leadership abilities that make such a difference to your success. |
Admit it! You know as a leader that your team members deserve more feedback about their performance than they're getting. Whether the feedback is due to them because they did something very well or because they need help with some task, they haven't heard the news from you, have they?
Why do we let the feedback slide? I don't have enough time..I really don't want to deal with a problem right now...I'm sure this team member KNOWS he or she did a great job...on and on the excuses go.
How many leaders do you think do an even adequate job of providing effective feedback? I don't know the number, but it's bigger than it should be.
Remember...feedback is the breakfast of champions! So what can you do to recognize the importance of and perfect the skill of giving feedback? I've got suggestions!

I can't give you more time, but YOU CAN become more skilled in providing feedback that ultimately saves time. Here are a couple of options:
1. Use ProStar Coach to practice and perfect your feedback-giving abilities. ProStar includes structured activities that develop your feedback techniques - learn them here and use them for life.
Don't forget...It's very hard to apply new skills or retrain old techniques. It takes reinforcement, practice, practice and more practice to make the new skills stick, for them to become ingrained. It's like going to the gym on a regular basis for strength training - it can't be done once every two weeks to get the results you want!

2. Providing Performance Feedback (a 1.5 - 2.0 hours self-paced eLearning course) that provides managers and team leaders with the tools necessary to implement a systematic, fact-based approach to performance improvement through quality feedback. With its focus on logical processes and reasonable commitments, Providing Performance Feedback can help even experienced managers evaluate and improve performance more effectively. Using the Vital Learning process, managers can demonstrate their commitment to an open and consistent performance improvement process.
