A Childhood Memory Spawns the Winterland Symphonic Suite

Very late on a cold winter night in 1940 a three year old lad was awakened by his older brother. The older brother told his younger brother to look outside the window at the new fallen snow. Street lamps illuminated the tree branches ladden with crystals of white. That moment was the first life's recollection of composer Richard Englefield. Fifty three years later (1993) Richard Englefield composed his 2nd Symphony (Op. No. 2) titled the Winterland Symphonic Suite as a tribute to that beautiful and unforgettable first recollection.

The symphony is diverse and quite interesting. The titles of the eight movements best describe the lovely variations. We list them for your reference at a time of year when such a performance might well be welcomed with delight by your audience and instrumentlists as well. The time grows short in planning for the 2007-2008 season.Title of each movement is followed by the featured instrument(s) in this elegant composition.
