Compositions
An exceptionally gifted and highly respected violoinist
with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra (Simon James)
has performed Richard Englefield's Violin Concerto No.
1.The orchestral performance was recorded by the
esteemed Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra in
Bratislava, Slovak Republic. Simon James is also the
Director and Concertmaster of the Northwest
Symphonia Orchestra and CEO of Simon James Music
Production Co. in Seattle. His biography follows:
Australian violinist Simon James is in his fifteenth
season with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. Before
joining the SSO, he was a member of the Melbourne
Symphony Orchestra and the Lincoln Center Mostly
Mozart Festival Orchestra. A graduate of the
Manhattan School of Music, he won the Dr. Benjamin
Alexander Memorial Scholarship. He also won an
Australia Council Award. Mr. James has played solo
recitals and concertos throughout the world and is a
former member of the Claremont Trio, the Sonora &
Peters String Quartet, and the Australia Chamber
Soloists.
He is a founding member of the Seattle Violin Virtuosi
and Seattle Chamber Orchestra and serves as
Concertmaster. He was concertmaster for the
Bolshoi Ballet's recent Seattle performance of "Swan
Lake". This year he has recorded Richard Englefield's
Violin Concerto #1 with the Slovak Radio Symphony
Orchestra under the direction of Kirk Trevor. He also
recorded music of Saint-Saens, Ravel, and Debussy
with harpist Juliet Stratton. An active studio
musician, he has recorded over 200 motion picture
and television scores, many of which have won
numerous awards. The amazing Simon James is
presently producing Englefield's new chamber music
CD featuring string quartet with flute, cello quartet,
flute duet, Horn Ensembles and concert piano
sonatas.
