Forty plus years of marriage had seen a lot of furniture come and go, but even in their new home, the pecan colonial coffee table and two end tables remained. It was time for a "new beginnings" makeover and so began our third project with this delightful couple
There were a few must-haves: elegant, durable fabrics that would withstand the rigors of an adorable family dog, lighter and brighter colors that didn't weigh down a room with a 20' cathedral ceiling and improved lighting for the two bookcases flanking both sides of the fireplace. The existing 11' X 13' dhurrie rug had great colors so we used it as platform to build their new look.
With a detailed design plan in hand and a little encouragement, they let go of a 20 year old sofa and loveseat (and those colonial tables). We replaced them with softly tapered upholstered pieces that were a better style and proportion for the size of their room.
Clients laugh when we ask them to stand up so we can measure the back of their legs, but we get a perfect ergonomic fit every time we create custom upholstery. The seat height, depth and back height are built to comfortably support your body. There's hardly a sweeter sound on installation day than hearing a happy client say "ahhhh" when they sit on their new furniture for the first time.
Often entertaining family and friends, extra seating was important. Adding a classic rectangular ottoman and opening up the floor plan for extra chairs to be easily brought in gave an open, airy feel to the space.
If your room has an L-shaped seating configuration, the smart option is to choose a square or round cocktail table. Beware of sizes 30" or smaller - they often look diminutive. The handsome table pictured here is 48" square and it's a great value from Stanley Furniture's Avalon Heights Collection. Seventy percent of their furniture is made here in America.
