 Fall
In Love With Fall
All Over Again
As
the air becomes crisp and summer fun gives way to indoor activities,
we are seeing the newest design trends and colors reflecting
the colorful changing landscape outside. Isn’t there’s
just something soul-touching about nature’s cornucopia
of shimmering golds, maple leaf reds and chocolate browns
cast against a powder blue sky?
Continuing
the trend of borrowing colors from nature, the fall season
promises a vibrant color palette containing extraordinarily
rich, yet versatile hues. The depth of color provides extensive
options for adding room accents, changing themes and styles,
and even completely re-decorating/re-designing if you wish.
Love
Calming Neutrals? Painting is one of the easiest and most
impactful ways to give your rooms a facelift. Traditional
neutral colors never go out of style, but there are a number
of new additions to the category this season. Sand, wheat,
mustard, stone, and clay are just a few of the new colors
that blend harmoniously with most existing design schemes.
They also make a room appear larger and more open. Using a
few different but coordinating colors can be a great way to
add dimension to your room and highlight decorative trims,
furnishings, doorways, and shelves. In a large room, different
colors can divide space into visually separate areas. This
is helpful in a room that serves multiple functions.

| “Wow!”
were the first words out of my husband’s mouth when
he saw what you did for our family room. We’d tried
every possible furniture arrangement with no success.
And in 30 seconds, you came up with a creative solution
that not only makes sense but really opens up our room.
We never dreamed it could look and feel this comfortable.
Thanks and I’ll be calling for your help with phase
II soon!”

Discover
more living space. Have you found that moving
your family room furniture away from your walls (also known
as "floating") isn’t working for your family’s
lifestyle? There’s a good reason - you can easily lose
15-20% of your valuable floor space when you push your furniture
out from the walls into the center of your room. Sure, it
looked good in the magazine or on TV. But the latest trend
is to open up your rooms and regain that much needed space
without losing the cozy, inviting feel you love. Call
Interior Reflections to discover new and exciting
ways to reclaim that much needed space. We'll help you create
a more livable and comfortable environment you’ll love
to come home to!
Fall
for Toile. Today, toile (pronounced “twal”)
fabrics go with most everything. Do the unexpected: use a
toile with a sage green background with the scenes outlined
in a vibrant raspberry. We use toiles for stunning bedspreads
(outline quilting = wow!), decorative pillows, overstuffed
chairs, cloverleaf ottomans and more.

Did you know? Originating in France in
the late 1700’s, these timeless farm-inspired scenes
are most easily recognized for their monochromatic color
scheme printed on a natural linen ground.

Isn’t
it about time for a miracle product? In 1906
an Illinois gentleman invented the Tibet Almond Stick. Quick
as a wink, it makes surface scratches on wood disappear. Our
clients have used it on scuffed up kitchen cabinets, block
paneled walls and other wood surfaces with great success.
Look for it in small red and yellow can at your local hardware
store. It’ll take you more than a lifetime to use it
up. When you make a design appointment with us, we’ll
be happy to bring one for you to keep.
Instant
Accessories! Think vertical and buy 3 or 5
drapery rod finials ala carte. Choose different heights and
even different finishes to create an interesting display.
Colorful hand blown glass and spectacular crystal finials
will dress up any table top. Add lighted candle pillars (carefully)
to your glass finial arrangement and watch the light dance
and sparkle for hours.

A
blue rose. It doesn’t exist in nature. But
it’s become the Holy Grail among floral breeders,
even though roses lack the gene that produces blue pigment.
(Purple and lavender roses get their color from a reaction
between red pigment and other molecules in their petals.)
Scientists have manipulated roses’ genetic code, using
genes from petunias and pansies, and even indigo-producing
enzymes from the human liver. So far, the blooms have been
more violet than true blue, but researchers insist they
are getting close.

Our
family room is in desperate need of updating and we are planning
to buy either a flat screen or plasma TV to get started. Where
should we put it?
You
have an exciting project ahead of you! Sounds like your TV
is an important part of your family room experience. That
immediately tells us it will most likely be a focal point.
In our design experience, a TV often trumps a fireplace or
any other architectural element in determining your family
room’s main focal point. Naturally, we recommend arranging
your furnishings keeping your TV placement in mind for easy
viewing.
Our
clients frequently ask “can we place our flat screen
TV above our fireplace?” Depending on the height of
your fireplace mantle – maybe so. But take a test drive
first. Have a seat and visualize how comfortable it will be
for you to constantly be looking up. Visualize looking at
the center of your computer monitor if it was raised 3’
up from your desk surface. Same principle – you’ll
just need to find a good masseuse!
One
of the best solutions we offer is Stanley Furniture’s
Grand Plasma Theatre Wall. It’s
a beautiful entertainment center with an amazing remote controlled,
power lift system hidden inside. The “now
you see it, now you don’t” feature marries beauty
and function giving you maximum room design flexibility. By
adding right and left display bookcases with cabinet storage
below, we can create a dramatic theater wall your family will
enjoy for years to come.
