Greetings!
Ahhhh, autumn is here. Although here in Florida we don't have the glorious fall foliage display that others enjoy, we really appreciate the cooler mornings and evenings. We hope you will enjoy this selection of topics of interest pertinent to auditors and other professionals in the areas of environment, health & safety, security, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility.
Sincerely, Wendy K. Acha Administration Manager BEAC |

BEAC certification recognized |
The Auditing Roundtable and BEAC recently submitted comments to the EPA on auditor qualifications and independence relative to their Independent Audit Program proposed as one of the solutions for "deflexing" Texas Flexible Permits.
EPA Region VI amended the program to:
- include BEAC certification in the qualifications for auditors;
- prohibit persons who had previously worked on the facility's air permit from being on the audit team;
- require disclosure of any additional agreements between the auditee and the audit provider; and
- add clarity to the phrase "no direct financial stake in the outcome of the audit" by prohibiting auditors from directly holding stock in the auditee.
The final program, template and all the comments submitted on the draft program can be found on the agency's docket here.

Are you IN? |
"People keep inviting me to LinkedIn, so I finally set up a profile. Big deal - now what?"
You're right, if all you do is set up a profile, you won't get anything out of it. The next step is to join groups that focus on topics you're interested in: trade groups, alumni associations, member organizations, even your own company might have one. You get to set parameters on receiving updates from those groups. I prefer weekly email summaries, but you can also opt out completely, or get daily postings. The BEAC group has over 900 members.
Once you've joined some groups, check out the discussions, add constructive comments to share your wisdom, pose questions of your own, post articles of interest, check out job postings. It can help you discover new insights to your industry, and put you in contact with interesting professionals you might not meet otherwise. |

BEAC applicants must meet a variety of qualification criteria. Once approved, they are awarded the professional designation of Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA).
