    BEAC is pleased to announce the following new appointments:

    The Auditing Roundtable has appointed the following board members:

    • Steven Albert, Senior Program Manager of ENSR AECOM, to replace John Nagy,
    • Thomas Harding, EHS Manager of Kearfott Guidance & Navigation Corporation, to replace Julie Thompson
    BEAC is pleased to welcome Sue Fisk as Certification Administrator.

    The Training & Education Committee has appointed Jeffrey Romine as Chair, and Salvatore Caccavale as Vice Chair.

    The Marketing Committee has appointed Jeffery Camplin as Chair, and Earl Gaugler as Vice Chair.

    The Ethics Committee is pleased to welcome new members Joseph Baker and Gary Helmer.

    The Institute of Internal Auditors has extended a special membership discount to BEAC participants.

    ACC issues revisions to Responsible Care program

    The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has announced the release of newly enhanced versions of the RCMS and RC14001 Technical Specifications.

    RCMS:2008 and RC14001:2008 include several new elements focused on product and product stewardship requirements; streamlined and more consistent language between the two technical specifications; and the addition of emergency response elements in RCMS.


    CPEA presentations worldwide

    Jitendra Patel, CPEA, held an EHS audit course in Bahrain at the Mideast ASSE Chapter conference Feb 16 - 20. Jitu is a member of BEAC's Training & Education Committee.

    CPEAs Stuart Wood and Jack Fearing will be speaking at the ASSE Singapore conference on April 30, 2008.

    Lincoln Romain, CPEA and past Chair, will be making presentations on EHS Auditing at IIA conferences in Colombia (May), Costa Rica (August), and the Dominican Republic (September).

    Article on "Environmental Auditing and Management Approaches for Compliance"

    The article "Environmental Auditing and Management Approaches for Compliance ", by Timothy Wilkins, Partner at Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP appears in the February 2008 issue of Biodiesel Magazine.

    Excerpt:
    "Periodic "checkup" audits are essential. In addition to the ongoing efforts of qualified environmental personnel, the most essential component of a strong compliance effort may be periodic audits of a facility's environmental compliance status."


    Trilateral initiative

    The following text is agreed and approved by The Auditing Roundtable (AR), Board of Environmental, Health & Safety Auditor Certifications (BEAC) and The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

    The Leading organizations in EHS and internal auditing have joined forces to promote the professional practice of EHS auditing and auditor expertise. Collectively, the AR, BEAC and The IIA provides auditors and stakeholders with resources such as auditor certifications, codes of ethics, body of knowledge, and educational and networking opportunities, for a competent and productive EHS audit program.

    EHS auditing contributes to effective and accountable corporate risk management. When delivered by certified professionals, a reliable EHS audit program adds to the business value by enabling improved performance, enhancing credibility, increasing stakeholder assurance, and defining the organization as a responsible employer and an environmental steward.

    ABOUT BEAC
    BEAC is an independent non-profit corporation, created in 1997 as a joint venture between The Auditing Roundtable and The Institute of Internal Auditors to issue professional auditor certifications relating to environmental, health & safety, security, sustainability, social responsibility (EHS), and other scientific fields.

    BEAC applicants must meet a variety of qualification criteria. Once approved, they are awarded the professional designation of Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA).

    The BEAC certification is accredited by the Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).

    The most recent newsletter from the IIA (IIA Insight), included a Feature Article on Corporate Social Responsibility. BEAC Chair Jerry Atlas, Past- Chair Lincoln Romain, and IIA President Dave Richards were quoted a number of times in the article. Read more....
