Greetings!

BEAC has achieved remarkable success since its creation in 1997. The CPEA certification is been awarded accreditation by the Council on Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB); The Institute of Internal Auditors' Board of Regents has formally approved recognition of the professional accomplishments of the CPEA and has accepted the CPEA designation for their CIA exam, Part IV; and CPEAs qualify for professional membership status by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).

  • Responsible Care® Update

    Since 1988, Responsible Care® has been recognized as one of the most successful EH&S and security initiatives. The American Chemistry Council (ACC) and BEAC have a signed memorandum of understanding giving BEAC an oversight role in implementing ACC's Responsible Care® third-party certification requirements and to play an integral role in certifying ACC Responsible Care® auditors, approving RCMS® Audit Service Providers, and recognizing Responsible Care® Training Course Providers.

    To date 94 individuals have taken the BEAC Responsible Care® examination with an 85% pass rate. There are currently 48 individuals who have been awareded the CPEA designation and 35 applications are pending.

    Midland Engineering, Ltd. and Environmental Strategies Consulting, LLC are fully approved RCMS® Audit Service Providers (ASP). CoVeris, Inc. and ERMCVS are conditionally approved RCMS® ASPs. Verrico Associates, LLC is designated as a Recognized BEAC Responsible Care® Training Course Provider.


    Meet the 2006 Board of Directors

    BEAC is pleased to announce the members of the 2006 Executive Committee and Board of Directors as follows: David G. Sultana, CPEA will serve as chair. Dave is currently the manager, EHS Audits for the Salt River Project in Phoenix, AZ; Lincoln Romain, chair- elect, senior manager EH&S, Global Crossing Development Company, Florham Park, NJ; John Nagy, vice president, EHS Management Services, ENSR, Warrenville, IL will continue to serve as treasurer in 2006;James R. Turner, compliance director, Alabama Power Company, Birmingham, AL will continue serving as secretary. Board members include: Jerrold D. Atlas, Consolidated Edison of New York; Kenneth S. Kasper, Schering-Plough; Brenda D. Lovell, The Institute of Internal Auditors; Mark Schwarz, NOVA Chemical, Ltd.; and Jeffrey L. Seibert, General Motors.

    BEAC is a professional certification board that issues the Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) designation to qualified EHS auditors. Certification specialty programs include Environmental Compliance; Health & Safety; Management System; Responsible Care®.

    BEAC evaluates the academic and professional experience and qualifications of EHS auditors, administers examinations relating to EHS auditing knowledge and skills, establishes recertification standards in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and sets the standards related to the practice of environmental, health and safety auditing. BEAC certification demonstrates the competency, professionalism, and ability of EHS auditors and is fully accredited by the Council on Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).

    BEAC CPEAs are recognized by The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) for their professional accomplishments and qualify for Professional Membership status with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).
