ING Miami Marathon� Sunday, January 29th
The eyes of the world will be focused on the main event of the weekend - the ING Miami Marathon�. Friends, family and curious spectators will line up along the 26.2 miles of roadways filled with inspiring sights and sounds to cheer on the many that chose to RUN MIAMI!
Congratulations to our friend and world renowned artist Stephen Gamson on being the featured artist of the 2012 ING Miami Marathon. Stephen created the artwork for the ribbons being awarded to participants and the commemorative poster being distributed at the EXPO. HistoryMiami, 101 West Flagler Street Join Ezequiel Torres and other artists for an informative performance of music and dance traditions related to the Afro-Cuban Orisha religion. This event is part of the Heritage Spotlight series, an artist-in-residence program showcasing local traditional artists and cultural expressions. Born in Havana, Cuba, Ezequiel Torres is a master drummer who specializes in the bat� drum, a key instrument in the Afro-Cuban Orisha religion (sometimes referred to as Santer�a). In addition to performing at ceremonies, Ezequiel also makes bat� drums and other instruments by hand. Recognized for his expertise, he received the 2008 Florida Folk Heritage Award and the 2010 National Heritage Fellowship. Ezequiel has lived in Miami since 1980.
