Hi Folks, My apologies. I am soooo late with this newsletter! Robin and I have been busy moving to our new home, about 50 miles north of L.A., in Seabridge, Oxnard CA. Time for some cleaner air and peace and quiet (except for what comes out of my studio!). We sold our home in 2005 and have been hanging out waiting for the housing market to correct. This felt like a good time to buy and the price was right so we went for it.

Music Dealers and Coca Cola
In July of last year, the Coca-Cola Company formalized a partnership with full service licensing company Music Dealers. The deal narrows the gap between artists and brands. It also opens up a new avenue for unsigned and emerging talent to break onto the global music stage. More here.

Joke Corner

C, E-flat, and G go into a bar. The bartender says, "Sorry, but we don't serve minors." So E-flat leaves, and C and G have an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished, and G is out flat. F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough.

General Questions
|
The "General Questions" thread always has some interesting conversations going on. Most recently they included questions from Alex Jenkins on what to do with his 600 song catalog. Rob (Cruciform) commented on to what extent are libraries and lic.cos. partly responsible for driving down the synch value of music? Reading comments from music supes, some of them are annoyed at libs that try to market themselves on the basis of offering cheap or no upfront fees. Read More

Yoga Poses For The Stressed-Out Composer
|
Robin's Yoga pose for the month.
Cat/Cow
This is a basic yoga movement. It's great in the morning for warming up the spine and generally, for releasing tension at any time of day. It can also be helpful before bed as a way to relax and prepare for a restful night's sleep.
1) Take a neutral "tabletop" position. (You may place a blanket under your knees for comfort.) Knees are under the hips. Toes tucked. Wrists are under the shoulders; knees are roughly under the hips - or slightly behind the hips for more freedom of movement. Arms are straight throughout. Eyes of the elbows are "looking at each other" to keep arms straight. 2) Inhale and look up. Tailbone lengthens up toward the ceiling and the chest expands, shoulders open. The belly will drop slightly, but be careful not to over-arch the low back. Think of the movement as being more in the thoracic spine (in the area behind the heart.) 3) As you exhale round your back like a Halloween c at and press the navel towards the spine. Allow your neck to relax. The crown of the head will face down towards the floor. Repeat 3-4 times. Notice how good you feel!
