Hi Folks,

2012 is upon us and hope you are all writing up a storm, getting a lot of placements and that your PRO payments were overflowing this last payment period!
Getting What You Want
Sunrise

Recently I wrote a post that I had been thinking about for a very long time. It has to do with the power we all have within us, tapping into that power, and achieving what we want out of life. I have been using these universal truths for decades to help manifest goals that have been important to me. It's helped with my health (you need good health before anything!), career, financial security and finding my soul mate. Read more here.

YouTube Content ID Program
The hottest topic on MLR this month has been the YouTube Content ID Program. In particular the partnership with Rumblefish. It seems that many of us do not entirely understand it and the implications. I'm not even sure Google and YouTube do! Definitly a "Work In Progress". We've had many comments from composers as well as reps from Audiosparx, MusicLoops, Shockwave and Crucial Music. Come and join the fun here!
MLR Member Products
A number of MLR members have music related products that might be of interest to some. Keith Holden has a loop product called Funk Bass Loops. More info here. Eric Bolvin has a Latin Loop package containing percussion and piano montunos. More info here. JD Atkinson has come with a meta tagging service. More info here.

Joke Corner

Saint Peter is checking ID's at the Pearly Gates, and first comes a Texan. "Tell me, what have you done in life?" says St. Peter.

The Texan says, "Well, I struck oil, so I became rich, but I didn't sit on my laurels--I divided all my money among my entire family in my will, so our descendants are all set for about three generations."

St. Peter says, "That's quite something. Come on in. Next!"

The second guy in line has been listening, so he says, "I struck it big in the stock market, but I didn't selfishly just provide for my own like that Texan guy. I donated five million to Save the Children."

"Wonderful!" says Saint Peter. "Come in. Who's next?"

The third guy has been listening, and says timidly with a downcast look, "Well, I only made five thousand dollars in my entire lifetime."

"Heavens!" says St. Peter. "What instrument did you play?"

General Questions
The "General Questions" thread always has some interesting conversations going on. Most recently they included questions on how much you write in a 40 hour week, a funny comment from "Alan from Norwich" and various other bits. Also a thread congratulating Papa Rob (Cruciform) on the new addition to his family! Read More

Yoga Poses For The Stressed-Out Composer

Child's Pose
Robin's Yoga pose for the month.

Child's Pose

Child's pose is sometimes called "the pose of wisdom" or the "pose of surrender". It's a partial inversion because the heart is above the head. It is a wonderful resting pose and can reduce the "fight or flight" response, especially when you're in "overwhelm mode". It's a gentle stretch for the entire spine. Great for insomnia. Fortunately, it's blissfully easy!

Start in "tabletop" position - all fours, wrists under shoulders and knees under hips. Place the big toes together and slide your hips back towards your heels. (They may or may not go back that far.) You can rest your elbows on the floor, or if it's comfortable, come all the way down with your forehead resting on the floor. Arms can be stretched out in front or at your sides. Widen out your knees so that your torso can rest comfortably between your thighs. Experiment with the width between your knees. If your hips don't reach your heels you may want to roll up a towel or a blanket behind the knees to give more support. Enjoy!

Recipe Of The Month

ROBIN'S NO-FAIL HONEY MUSTARD BALSAMIC DRESSING

This is a recipe that I have been using for decades, and no matter what else I may botch, the salad is always a hit. I find that it works well for more savory salads or salads that may include chopped apples, chopped nuts, mandarin oranges, dried cranberries and/or spinach. You almost can't go wrong, although I haven't tried it with a fruit salad.

(This recipe serves 2, but you can multiply quantities as needed.)

3 tblsp extra virgin olive oil

1 tblsp balsamic vinegar

1 ½ tsp honey (or more to taste)

1 ½ tsp Dijon mustard (or more to taste)

Garlic powder to taste (I use a pinch or a generous shake of the garlic powder per person, in this case 2.)

Vigorously mix all ingredients together so that the oil and vinegar are well blended and there are no lumps of honey or mustard. (You might like to use a mini food processor or an immersion blender.)

I like to put the dressing on the bottom of the salad bowl, add the salad greens and all the "goodies", and then toss at the table. Yummmmmmmm!

Well that's it for now. Have a wonderful 2012!
