Greetings!

The Year of Faith begins on October 11, 2012. The Catholic Apostolate Center Team has been busy preparing for the Year of Faith since it was proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI last year.

One of the exciting features of our website is the Year of Faith Portal. Here you can find all of the important documents that have been put forth thus far, including Porta Fidei, the Apostolic Letter of Pope Benedict XVI announcing the Year of Faith. This page will continue to be updated with new resources and documents as the Year of Faith progresses, so be sure to check the page regularly!

In his book "The Evangelization Equation: The Who, What, and How," Fr. James Wehner writes the following:

"In calling for a new evangelization, Pope John Paul II recognized that the Church needed to find a new way of proclaiming the Gospel to people who saw the world through the lens of modernity and post-modernism. He knew we needed to devise new ways of doing old things-calling people to repent, to believe, to love. In the years since John Paul II's death, Pope Benedict XVI has repeated that call, urging the Church on all levels to address the problems the world faces now in a language contemporary people understand. One question, however, still remains. How?"

With the resources in this newsletter and in the Year of Faith Portal, we hope you can begin to answer the question "how?"

Know that our prayers remain with you!

Disciples of the Lord
Cardinal Wuerl
His Eminence Donald Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington D.C., has an important role as the Relator General of the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the New Evangelization. However, prior to the announcement of his leadership in the coming Bishop's Synod, in 2010 His Eminence published a pastoral letter on the New Evangelization entitled "Disciples of the Lord: Sharing the Vision."

In this document, Cardinal Wuerl works to give all of the faithful a deeper understanding of this "New Evangelization" and a greater sense of its importance. A fantastic catechetical resource, it can be of great help to both the scholarly and the newcomer to this topic.

We share this pastoral letter with you here in the hopes that the steps towards the New Evangelization that Cardinal Wuerl outlines will indeed assist all of us.

"Only when their faith permeates every aspect of their lives do Christians become truly open to the transforming power of the Gospel."

-Cardinal Wuerl in "Disciples of the Lord"
Produced by the Archdiocese of San Antonio's Office for Evangelization, these 12 Tips for an Effective New Evangelization help us take what we have learned about the New Evangelization and put it into practice. This guide can and should be seen as a challenge to each us as we continually ask ourselves "What does the New Evangelization look like?" and "How do I go about it?"

We hope that this practical guide can assist each of us in how to go about living the New Evangelization with each new day.

 Wisdom from the Saints

"Do you want a perfect example of the perfection of the heavenly Father? ...Look, therefore, in faith at your divine model, Jesus Christ: profit by the treasures of grace that he gained for you through his holy life, and you will become holy and perfect as your heavenly Father."

-St. Vincent Pallotti
