Catholic Apostolate Center Newsletter

From the Director's Desk Fr. Frank

Greetings!

As a new school year begins, we move from more periodic editions of our newsletter to twice a month. With each issue, we hope to highlight resources that can assist you as apostles for the New Evangelization.

This issue will feature catechetical resources. Why? Because we are always in need of on-going learning about the faith. Blessed John Paul II notes in his Apostolic Exhortation, "Catechesis in our Time" that

"Within the whole process of evangelization, the aim of catechesis is to be the teaching and maturation stage, that is to say, the period in which the Christian, having accepted by faith the person of Jesus Christ as the one Lord and having given Him complete adherence by sincere conversion of heart, endeavors to know better this Jesus to whom he has entrusted himself: to know His 'mystery', the kingdom of God proclaimed by Him, the requirements and promises contained in His Gospel message, and the paths that He has laid down for anyone who wishes to follow Him."

Another reason is that this year marks the twentieth anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This rich and comprehensive work is often underutilized. We encourage you to delve into it, especially during the upcoming Year of Faith.

Let us know what ways we can assist you in your ongoing formation as apostles of Christ.

May the charity of Christ urge you on!

In God the Infinite Love,
Fr. Frank

Digital "Tools of the Trade"

Online Tools
Any evangelizer is only as good as the tools available to him or her. The Church and her many ministries have worked diligently to make these traditional resources of prayer and catechesis digitized and ready at your fingertips! Be sure to check out the links to these many "tools of the trade"!

A resource provided by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), it allows you to search by verse, chapter, or book of the bible.

Catechism of the Catholic Church e-Book
Catechism Online Thanks to both the Vatican and the USCCB this resource is available in two different, yet equally excellent, options. The USCCB offers an e-book (seen at right) for easy viewing on iPads and other reading tablets. Through the Vatican's resource, one is able to search for specific words and phrases through its concordance feature.

A resource of divineoffice.org, this website features online copies of each hour of the office, updated daily.

Provided by the USCCB, one can easily find the day's mass readings (or jump ahead to the weekend or another day) in order to read and reflect upon the Lord's Word.

Provided by the Vatican's website, this represents a more concise work of the actual Catechism of the Catholic Church. While this compendium  is not intended to be a replacement of the full Catechism, it does allow for easier use and refers to the Catechism where greater detail can be found.

JPII In his Apostolic Exhortation "Catechesi Tradendae"released early in his papacy, Blessed Pope John Paul II reminds the faithful of the importance for each of us to take part in Catechesis - spreading the Gospel message - and continuing the charge that was given to the first Apostles. We echo the sentiments of Blessed Pope John Paul II as he expresses the hope that this document,

"...should strengthen the solidity of the faith and of Christian living, should give fresh vigor to the initiatives in hand, should stimulate creativity - with the required vigilance - and should help to spread among the communities the joy of bringing the mystery of Christ to the world."
