Greetings from the ASLM headquarters in Addis Ababa! Your support is critical to establishing a sound foundation for the first pan-African laboratory medicine organization and we appreciate the positive feedback and encouragement we have received so far. Meet ASLM's Newest Staff Member

 

We are pleased to introduce the newest addition to our ASLM team: Teferi Mekonen, Accreditation Officer and ASLM Focal Point for the WHO AFRO Stepwise Laboratory Quality Improvement Process Towards Accreditation (SLIPTA).

 

Teferi Mekonen, Accreditation Officer and SLIPTA Focal Point

Teferi Mekonen (M.Sc., MPH) joined ASLM on 1 February 2012. As the ASLM SLIPTA Focal Point, he works with professional societies and other stakeholders to mobilize resources to support laboratories for quality improvement. He also works with partners to comprise a pool of experts to conduct  SLIPTA audits and  coordinates the  training of auditors to conduct laboratory audits using the SLIPTA Checklist. In addition, Teferi serves as the primary point of contact for Ministries of Health (MoH) on the administrative and technical components of SLIPTA. 

 

Prior to joining ASLM, he served as Director of the Laboratory Strengthening Program at International Clinical Laboratories, and as a Laboratory Project Coordinator for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Ethiopia Country Office. Teferi has also taught a Clinical Laboratory Management course at the Addis Ababa University School of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
