8th Grade Beta Club Information

Junior Beta Club Logo
Parents,

At our meeting on Thursday we discussed the following with your child:

1. Grades, service hours, paperwork, discipline, and meetings are all vital components of being a member of the Beta Club. Grades lower than a B in all classes, including related arts, will result in your child being on probation. He/she will have one quarter to improve the grade or he/she is dismissed. (If your child is taking a high school credit class, then "C" is the lowest grade allowed.) Service hours are due the day report cards are issued. If your child does not complete all hours (in two different areas) or does not turn in service hours, he/she will be dismissed after the second time. All paperwork should be turned in either before or on the due date. After your child has turned in paperwork late twice, he/she will be removed from Beta Club. An OSS referral results in immediate dismissal from Beta Club and your child will not be allowed to go on the trip. Two ISS referrals results in your child being dismissed from Beta Club.

2. Non-refundable deposit due Friday, September 14 of $200.00. Please let Mrs. Merck know if you would like your child to attend but are having financial difficulty securing the deposit. We will have fundraisers to help offset the cost of the trip. We will travel to Washington, DC, Philadelphia, NYC, and the Amish Country as well as visit many colleges along the way. The cost of the trip is $819.00.

3. If your child is interested in attending the SC Jr. Beta Club Convention this year, a $50.00 non-refundable deposit is due Friday, September 28. The cost of the trip is $325.00. The student will need to sign up to compete in a competition. If you need more information, please contact me and I'll send more information. The convention will be held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, January 23-25, 2013.

3. The following students are Beta Club Officers for the this year: President -- Liam Easley, Vice President -- Reid Powell, and Secretary -- Kaitlin Cox.

2012 is an Election Year!   Are you Registered to Vote?
The General Election will be held on Tuesday November 6th.   If you are not registered to vote, follow the steps below to register.  In order to vote, South Carolina law requires that one must first register to vote at least 30 days prior to the election.   That means that you must register to vote by October 6th.

Click on the link below for instructions on how to register.
On this website, you will find a form that can be downloaded.  Once you complete the form, you can either mail, fax or scan it  your county board of voter registration.  You may also visit the county voter registration board in person and complete a form on site.  The web page will help you locate the registration site closest to you, and provide you with an address should you decide to mail or email the form/
In order to be eligible to vote, an individual must be a United States citizen, be at least eighteen years old on or before the next election, and be a resident of South Carolina.  There is no length of residency requirement in South Carolina in order to register to vote.  You can register at any time.
This is an important election year for South Carolina.  Our public schools will inevitably be impacted by those individuals that are elected into office.   Please take the time to know the candidates in your area.  Visit
