Reminder: Augusta Road Paving Update |
Paving will still take place on Augusta Road, from Westminster Church to Mauldin Road. Paving is expected to begin in the next 1-2 weeks, with much of the work taking place the week after Labor Day. Before paving can begin, handicap ramps on the east/south side of Augusta Road (heading out of town, on the right side) must be completed. They also have some spot milling and patching, which will fix problems deep into the road, which must be finished before they can completely repave. It is possible that there will be one lane closed at a time during the day while the ramps are fixed and spot patching takes place.
Once the above work is completed, SCDOT will begin repaving the road. According to SCDOT, the major repaving and resurfacing will take place at night. They will begin to close lanes between 7-8 pm, and work during the overnight hours. Unless something unexpected comes up, there should not be any major lane closures or interruptions during the day.
We will keep you posted on any updates we receive from the City. Please keep this information in mind as you plan for your morning and afternoon commutes to and from Hughes Academy. Thank you!

GHS Spirt Week Sept.1 - 7 |
Each year, Greenville High and our rival, J.L. Mann, partake in a friendly competition to raise money for a pre-determined charity. This year, Greenville High has selected the Chris and Kelly Hope Foundation and Sirrine Forever (Sirrine Forever will receive $20,000 from our Spirit Week funds) as the 2012 Spirit Week charities. The goal of this foundation is to improve services in the upstate to help teenagers and young adults, as well as their families, battle drug addiction and substance abuse. This foundation also raises awareness and education about drug and substance abuse, which is important to us as a whole at Greenville High School.
Spirit Week begins on Saturday, September 1, and ends at the event of the Friday night football game on September 7. Spirit Week rules state that we can only accept donations that are directly to Greenville High Spirit Week and not to the charities themselves. Additionally, we can only collect money during the actual week of Spirit Week. Because of these rules, we ask that any checks that are given be dated for September 1, 2012, and made out to Greenville High Spirit Week. These checks can be sent directly to Greenville High School. The address is 1 Vardry St, Greenville, SC 29601. If you would like your donation to be earmarked for a certain charity, please memo that on your donation.
We thank you for everything you do to make Greenville High the great school that it is. We cannot do this alone, but firmly believe that, with the help of many hands, we can set a new record for Spirit Week Funds and make a memorable and marked impact on our community.
Sincerely, Thomas Cain GHS Student Body President 2012-13
