Prestwick Development Co. Donates $3,800

to Hughes for ActivExpressions

Prestwick Development Company (Atlanta, GA) has donated $3,800 to the Hughes Academy PTSA to partner in the purchase of three ActivExpression2 sets, one for each grade level at our school. Augmenting our current Promethean technology, ActivExpression2 is an intuitive Learner Response System designed to promote full-class participation and engagement throoughout lessons while encouraging ongoing, real-time assessment of student progress. The Express Poll and Wonderwheel interface "floats" over most computer applications including web browsers, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, enabling teachers to use ActivExpression2 simutaneously, minimizing lesson preparation time and maximizing precious classroom time.

In 2009, Prestwick developed the Augusta Heights Apartments, a 37 unit family apartment community on the land that formerly housed the parsonage of Augusta Heights Baptist Church on Augusta Road. Prestwick Development Co. was founded in 2008 and brings together a group of seasoned real estate professionals, highly experienced in the affordable housing industry. Prestwick's business model includes both new construction and rehabilitation of multi-family and senior housing communities located in the Mid-Atlantic, South Central and Southeast United States.

One of Prestwick's missions is to invest in the local community and support local initiatives that enhance stability and long term growth of the community and its residents. This year, the company's "Community Give Back Program" has focused on education. Hughes Academy is deeply grateful to Prestwick for their support and investment in our learning community.

A Message from the PTSA President

Great things are happening at Hughes Academy! I want to take this opportunity to thank you, our parent volunteers, for giving so much time, energy and talent to create the best middle school environment for our children. The parent/school partnership is strong and thriving thanks to your efforts and meaningful contributions.

The money raised from Magazine Sales, the Parent Party, Roaring Cougars campaign, apparel sales, school dances, Chick-Fil-A and business partnerships was tremendous. In addition to funding all PTSA programs, we were able to purchase eleven iPads, state of the art Doceri learning software, styli and cases for our Social Studies, Related Arts and Special Education Classrooms. We partnered with Prestwick Development to purchase three sets of ActivExpressions2, one for every grade level (as detailed in the article above). The PTSA, SIC and Hughes faculty have worked together to ensure that we now have innovative technology in every classroom at Hughes.

The PTSA sponsored several new programs, including the 6th Grade "Ready to Roar" Orientation and Cookout and the Family Fun Bingo Night. In addition, we continued to fund and coordinate classroom dollars for teachers ($100 each), first day activities and informational materials, Santa Sacks for needy Hughes families, Hands on Hughes, Magnet program promotional materials, field days, 8th Grade Day and Red Ribbon Week.

Your many efforts have also enhanced parent/student/school communication through our weekly E-Blasts, PTSA Website and Newsletters and Student Directory. Also, the PTSA was able to purchase eight new chairs for the school conference room and new furniture for the office lobby.

The Hughes PTSA received the Award of Excellence for Family and Community Involvement and the SC PTA Gold Leaf Award because of your many efforts and participation. It has been a wonderful year and I am truly grateful for your support. Thank you!!

Sincerely,

Cherron Saad
