Exciting News for Spanish Program at Hughes |
|
The District is in the process of revising the curriculum for Spanish instruction at the middle school level. This will directly impact the Spanish Middle School Transition Course at Hughes in a positive and enriched manner. The new curriculum is expected to be finalized by June 2012 and will be introduced during the 2012-2013 school year. Part of the curriculum revision includes suggesting authentic resources for instruction. Special attention is being given to the needs of students who have participated in a partial language immersion program to ensure that the curriculum takes into consideration their prior experience and current skill base. In addition to curriculum revisions, the District and faculty at Hughes are examining how daily instruction is being delivered to further enhance the program.
The administration at Blythe Academy and Hughes Academy, along with the District, are working together to enhance the transition of Spanish instruction from elementary to middle school. Boys Soccer
The Hughes boys soccer team is in the playoffs. They are the #3 seed in the upcoming County Championships and have a first round bye. They will play the winner of Sevier and Chandler at Hughes on Monday at 5:30 pm. Go Cougars!!
Girls Soccer
The Girls Soccer Team had a great season. They qualified for the County Championships and will play Thursday April 26. Details TBD.
Practice tomorrow (4/24) is cancelled due to a make up game for the boys. Big practice Wednesday 4 PM - 6 PM
Boys Baseball
Congratulations on a fantastic season. The Boys Team were an 8th seed in the tournament and lost 9-3 this past Saturday against Hillcrest Middle. They were coached by Todd Ware.

The following dates are for those students who are interested in participating in volleyball for the 2012-2013 school year:
May 7-17 (Monday-Thursday; no Fridays)
Spring Workouts (7th graders only!)
4:00-5:15 each day
LADY COUGAR VOLLEYBALL CAMP (rising 7th and 8th graders)
June 11-13
9:00-12:30pm
Cost: $30.00
