SC Junior Book Award Program

The Media Center is pleased to announce that the South Carolina Junior Book Award Program for 2011-2012 is complete and was successful. One hundred eighteen Hughes students participated in this year's program, and eighty-two qualified to attend the luncheon and vote for their favorite nominee. Hughes Academy students voted "Skeleton Creek", the eerie mystery by Patrick Carman, as their school winner. The Junior Book Award Winner at the State level will be announced in mid-March. The Junior Book Award nominees for 2012-2013 have been released, and more information about the new nominees will be posted on the Media Center website in the near future.

We wanted to thank Toby Bacot and our friends at Salsarita's Fresh Cantina at Greenridge for donating our delicious nacho bar luncheon. And we especially want to thank Jill Rothstein and our wonderful PTSA volunteers who donated their time and brought us prizes, drinks and tasty desserts! Thanks to all who helped make the South Carolina Junior Book Award Program for 2011-2012 a great success!

5K on St. Patrick's Day

Have you ever thought to yourself, "I sure would like to see Coach Campbell run since he makes us run in PE!", or "I wonder if I can beat Coach Campbell in a 5k race?"  Well your chance is at the St Patty's Day 5k on March 17th, 8am at Flour Field.  Coach Campbell will be running and you can too!  The school with the most participants gets a $1,000 worth of PE equipment.  Let's see if we can get fit and also help our PE department.  Sign up at http://go-greenevents.com/StPattysDay5k or see Coach Campbell for a flyer.  When it asked "who are you running for?", fill in Hughes Academy!!!

 PTSA Volunteer Hours

PTSA Volunteers:

Please continue to keep track of your off-campus volunteer hours for the PTSA.  We will ask for a tally of these hours in May.  Many of us work on projects benefiting the PTSA/School from home or the office.  It is important for us to keep records of these hours for many reasons, particularly since they have such a direct impact on potential grants, awards, etc.  Thank you!

Washington Center's Walk and Roll

Hughes Academy PTSA encourages you to support our friends at The Washington Center, our neighboring school serving students with severe mental disabilities.  Please join us as we Walk and Roll on April 14th at 9:00 AM.
