 8th Grade

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and I'm sure everyone is ready to get back to work! Exams are coming up and the second quarter is about over (January 12). With that being said, please remember to turn in your service hours to Mrs. Merck on Thursday, January 19. Everyone owes 10 hours for second quarter, but you may turn in more! Also, we have two extra days off (Jan. 13 and 16) so you can get in a few more service hours before turning in your form.

If you would like to make another payment for the trip, you may do so at any time. All money has to be in by the middle of March.

7th Grade

Please remember to turn in your service hours for second quarter by January 19. You should have completed 10 hours this quarter. If you owe me hours from first quarter and have not turned them in, please do so by January 19. Remember, you have two days that we are not in school to finish up your hours.

You may turn them into Mrs. Armistead on the 7th grade hall or bring them to my office anytime on the 19th.

Hughes Academy Courtyard Dedicated to Karen Jane Fraser

A permanent plaque dedicating the Hughes Academy Courtyard to Karen Jane Fraser has been installed.  Ms. Fraser was a sixth grade math teacher at Hughes who died suddenly on October 14, 1989.  She was an inspiring teacher and embodied the spirit of education.  Ms. Fraser set an example of excellence and was loved and respected by all.  She invested her life in making a difference in the lives of her students in and out of class.    A Karen Jane Fraser Memorial Fund was established and Hughes annually honors her through the presentation of spirit awards to two eighth-grade students exhibiting outstanding character.  Winners of the award receive a plaque and savings bond.
