Dear ,

Welcome to the new and improved No BS Weekly Update.

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we are going to be trying some neat new things this year.  One of those things is a bit of a redesign on the No BS Weekly Update.  You'll still get the same type of unique and original analysis that I have always provided in the main article each week, but we've changed things up a bit throughout the rest of the update.  But don't worry, we will still include a recipe each week!

As We Look To the Future

We spend a lot of time in the Update trying to help you see and avoid many of the risks that we believe still lurk in our current economic environment.  As we've said many times you have to read between the lines.  You have to dig a little deeper because as we've demonstrated to you in the past, many times the impression that the headline gives doesn't match the actual facts in the story.

That is why it is such a pleasure to bring a positive article to your attention.  As we've said in the past, we think there are still some nasty times ahead before things really start getting better, but let me be very clear, eventually I expect things will get better.

So here is something to look forward to in the future.

Think how incredibly technology has already changed our lives.  I don't know about you but it would be hard to imagine going back to life before the internet.  How many of you remember having to go to the library after school to do research for a report?  How many remember getting TV Guide in the mail each week?  How many remember reading the Dick Tracy comics and wishing you had a TV wrist phone?

Well the authors of this article seem to think that we are still in the infancy of how technology will change our lives.  If you have an interest in this kind of thing I would encourage you to read the article.  As you read the article, think to yourself, where are the opportunities in this future scenario; we did.  Would you like to know what some of those opportunities are?  Give us a call.

As We Look To the Future

OK, now back to the present.  I am seeing a troubling trend that I'd just like to bring to your attention.  If you recall I first wrote about Occupy Wall Street back in August of 2011, a month before it actually started.  I ran across a couple of articles that said that there was this movement that was growing and they had called for a protest in mid-September.  I wrote at the time that while I wasn't sure what to make of it, we should keep an eye on it.  Well we see what it developed into.  The thing that was interesting was that in these articles that started appearing even before the event, they told us what they had planned.

Why do I bring this up?  Well take a look at the following stories from the past week.

How many of you remember the riots of 1968 in Chicago?  What do you thing they mean by in "tradition of" 1968 rioters?  Here are three excerpts from his article:
-----------------------------------
"At times like these, survival is the most important thing," he says, peering through his owlish glasses and brushing wisps of gray hair off his forehead. He doesn't just mean it's time to protect your assets. He means it's time to stave off disaster. As he sees it, the world faces one of the most dangerous periods of modern history-a period of "evil." Europe is confronting a descent into chaos and conflict. In America he predicts riots on the streets that will lead to a brutal clampdown that will dramatically curtail civil liberties. The global economic system could even collapse altogether.
-----------------------------------
"I am not here to cheer you up. The situation is about as serious and difficult as I've experienced in my career," Soros tells Newsweek.
-----------------------
As anger rises, riots on the streets of American cities are inevitable. "Yes, yes, yes," he says, almost gleefully. The response to the unrest could be more damaging than the violence itself. "It will be an excuse for cracking down and using strong-arm tactics to maintain law and order, which, carried to an extreme, could bring about a repressive political system, a society where individual liberty is much more constrained, which would be a break with the tradition of the United States."

------------------------
Now remember folks, this isn't some fringe guy with no credibility.  This is one of the most successful hedge fund managers in history.  This is the guy that still holds the record for making the most money in one day.
Will he be right?  Will the Occupy movement turn to violence as the appear to be calling for when in the reference to the spirit of 1968 rioters?  Let's take a look at what they did in Oakland this past week.

So folks, will it come to pass?  I don't know.  They told us last year what they were going to do and then they did it.  I don't see any reason to expect anything less this year but we'll see.

Be Prepared!

My point of writing this folks is that you have time to prepare.  This doesn't have to come as a surprise.  Above everything else right now we continue to stress protecting your assets.  Make sure you are working with a planner who understands the current season of the economy.  If you aren't sure how to protect your assets and prepare for this type of chaos give us a call!

Sincerely,

Fed Signals That a Full Recovery Is Years Away (NYT)

RF: For those that think that interest rates "have to go back up", here is the Fed telling you that no they don't, at least not for the next 3 years!

Hawaii may keep track of all Web sites visited(c|net)

RF: I find this troubling for some reason. Seems kind of Big Brotherish if you know what I mean.

RF: This is interesting. Even George Soros is sitting mostly in cash.

Good Eats
Probably not heart healthy but they sure are good!  I made this recipe a couple of weeks ago.  Reminded me of the fries that Gail and I had at a little restaurant in downtown Denver a couple of years ago.
