FROM OUR CEO
Greetings!

Donna Martin

Happy Leap Day! I'm so glad 2012 is a leap year because it means we have one extra day to celebrate our 100th Anniversary!

Due to some feedback about the new e-blast, we are making a few minor changes. The titles of new articles that have not previously been in the newsletter or articles that contain new information will now be underlined. We hope this will help you more easily find the new articles and the articles that are important to you. We will also note new items in the table of contents so you can quickly find new material. Don't forget to click on the links under the table of contents to go directly to an article. This newsletter is a great way for us to pass along important and exciting information, so we want to make sure it's an accessible and user-friendly resource.

Have you registered for our Birthday Bash yet? If not, there's still time. You can register through March 17. You and your girls definitely won't want to miss our biggest birthday party ever. We only have one chance to celebrate our 100th birthday, so let's make it a great party.

If you know girls who aren't Girl Scouts but want to celebrate, they can come too. We will register them as Girl Scouts before the Birthday Bash so they can also enjoy the party. It's going to be a fun-filled afternoon for everyone, and we hope to see you all there.

It's Girl Scout Cookie Booth time, and we have a new mobile app that makes it easier than ever to find cookies near you. To download the free app, go to girlscoutcookies.org on your iPhone, and click on Official Girl Scout Cookie app, which will take you to the app store. Download the app and allow it to use your phone's GPS to find cookies in your area. It has never been easier to get your cookie fix!

Best Wishes,

Donna K. Martin

Help Celebrate the 100th Birthday of Girl Scouts on March 12, 2012

100th Birthday

To celebrate the 100th birthday of Girl Scouting on March 12, 2012, we are encouraging all girl and adult members of our organization and all others who support Girl Scouts and our mission to wear Girl Scout clothing to work, school or just out in their community.

Troop Leaders can carry this celebratory day a step further by having their own birthday party with your troop.

We would love to see pictures of you, your daughter, your troop or your friends celebrating in their Girl Scout apparel. Please email your pictures to sconnors@girlscoutsem.org. You just might see yourself on our website or in a publication.

Be a part of the celebration

Let us know what your troop is doing to celebrate this momentous centennial year whether it is on March 12th or throughout the year. We would love to share some of the great ideas with other leaders so they can also celebrate. We want this year to be one of celebrating our legacy and the future of Girl Scouting. Email your celebratory stories/events to jweir@girlscoutsem.org. We will feature some of the unique and exciting ideas in the BUZZ for other leaders as well.  Naturally we will give your troop credit for the idea so include your Troop number, level and a contact number when you email us your event details.
 Family Partnership - $100 for the 100th

Celebrate the Girl Scouts' 100th Birthday and continue the legacy of building girls of courage, confidence and character. Through the Family Partnership program, Girl Scouts is promoting the value of philanthropy and honoring your generosity with a Legacy Brick. To recognize the girls and their families who support the Girl Scout Mission in 2012 with a gift of $100 or more, personalized paving bricks will be installed at the camp of your choice in 2013 in your honor.

To find out more information about the bricks, see the Patch Program article.

To make your gift to Family Partnership, visit our website, call Fund Development at 314.592.2320, or mail your gift to:

The BIG Day Parade

Parade
Sept. 22, 2012

As part of our BIG Day, we're having our own parade. This is our opportunity to tell the Girl Scout story to our community through a parade and afternoon activities.

Make sure your Neighborhood is featured in the parade and assist in telling our story. We want to show our community the unity we have as an organization to celebrate our landmark 100th Anniversary and demonstrate what we give to our community.

In order to feature both Neighborhoods and troops, we wil have a flag brigade. We want to ensure that all of our members participate in The BIG Day first and foremost since it will be a wonderful family day. We want 20,000 Girl Scout members and their families downtown in green shirts. It will be a great way for the entire family to celebrate our anniversary.

We also want our troops and Neighborhoods to celebrate in their own way as part of our grass roots approach to the celebration. The flag brigade is a part of that initiative. Here's how you can get involved:

- Your Neighborhood can participate by purchasing a 100th Anniversary flag at the shop at a discounted price

- Each troop that holds their own 100th Anniversary celebration can then make a streamer to hang on the flag with their troop number and name of the celebration on the streamer, which will be attached to the flag

- Your Neighborhood will then designate two representatives (you might consider holding a contest to select people or you can choose them) to carry your flag in the flag brigade in the parade to represent your Neighborhood

- This unit will be prominently featured in our parade

- You can maintain these flags and proudly display them at future Neighborhood meetings

This is a fun and rewarding way to encourage troops to plan their own centennial year celebration. We hope to see many flags and streamers being carried down Market Street.

For planning purposes, please email Mary Ann Owens, mowens@girlscoutsem.org, and confirm that your Neighborhood will be participating in this exciting initiative.

Centennial Patch Program and Leave a Legacy Brick by Brick-Invest in Girls

Promise for the Future: 100 Years of Leadership

Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri is offering a special Promise for the Future: 100 years of Leadership Centennial Patch Program. A copy of the Centennial Patch Program booklet was mailed to registered Troop Leaders, Lifetime Members, PEGS, District Chairs, Neighborhood Team Chairs and various groups of adult volunteers. It is also available in the Resource Center. Visit our website to find out all about the program.

Leave a Legacy Brick by Brick-Invest in Girls is an opportunity/program for girls to learn about philanthropy by completing a requirement for the patch program, and for adults, family members and the community to help support Girl Scouting by making a minimum donation of $100 to Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri.

Bricks are offered through the Promise for the Future: 100 years of Leadership Centennial Patch Program and Family Partnership Campaign and are being used to fund those programs.

Those who donate $100 will receive a commemorative 4x8 inch brick, which may include up to three lines of text, that will be placed at a camp of the donor's choice. Donors can be from outside the Girl Scout family. Girls' aunts, uncles, grandparents and siblings are all welcome to be a part of this program.

For an additional $20 donation, a miniture replica "baby brick" will be available. The bricks will be in the following locations:

- A walkway created at the Cedarledge (old) Dining Hall

- At Camp Fiddlecreek, the current brick patio created with donations to the Sparking the Fire campaign will be expanded

- At Camp Tuckaho, a new brick patio will be dedicated on the northeast side of the Multipurpose Building

If enough donors invest in the Brick by Brick campaign, a second patio at Camp Tuckaho will be placed between Dogwood Dell and the archery range. These bricks will join the Girl Scout logo bricks rescued from the 2010 shower house fire and create a new patio for a drinking fountain and seating area.

The brick installation will take place in spring 2013 with the dedication of the walkways planned for Troop Roundup 2013. Donors unable to attend a dedication can make arrangements to visit their brick at camp. More information about the dedication and arrangements to visit bricks will be available at a later date.

Place an order. All orders must be placed by March 12, 2013, and donations are tax deductible.

The minature bricks will be mailed to donors at the end of March, June, September and December for use in Court of Awards, Milestone ceremonies, adult recognition dinners and other Girl Scout activities.

GSEM is embarking on a long-term study of the benefits of Girl Scouting, and we'd like to have your daughter participate.

The purpose of this project is to understand what your daughter is doing and learning through Girl Scouts and to identify how she benefits over the long term. By completing these online surveys, your daughter will help us tell the story of the Girl Scout experience for all girls.

Please register your Girl Scout to have her voice heard at www.girlscoutvoices.org.

- Please note that your daughter's information on these surveys is secure and confidential. Your daughter will not receive any sales or marketing contact as a result of her participation, and Council staff and volunteers will not be able to see her individual responses to questions. We will see the information compiled across all girls who take the surveys. Information on the Girl Scout data use policy may be found at www.girlscouts.org/research/data_use_policy.asp

- There will be incentives for Girl Scoust as they complete the surveys.

Once your daughter is registered, she will receive invitations to participate in online surveys later this spring as well as in future years. She may accept or refuse to participate in these surveys as she wishes.

We're counting on girls like your daughter to help make Girl Scouts a BETTER PLACE FOR ALL GIRLS!

If you have questions about this project, please contact Kathy White, Director, Research and Evaluation, 314.592.2389, kwhite@girlscoutsem.org.
